The Citation series from the first up to and including the Citation 19 were some of the best Sidney Harman designed and produced. These were made before Beatrice Foods bought H/K. At the time the Citation was comparable to McIntosh for those who could not afford a Mac.

My introduction to high end was when I purchased a pair of Dahlquist DQ-10's , SAE Mark XXV power amp (300 RMS per channel), SAE Mark B preamp, to go with my AR XB turntable and Advent 201 cassette deck, and a Pioneer reel to reel.

I let a lot of really high quality gear go in favour of this combination of products from the 80s and 90s: Sony tts-8000 with SME iv and Audio Technica ART-; Technics SHX-1000 DAC and Nakamichi CA7 preamp and PA7 power amp:

Possibly the best British integrated amplifier, The Lentek from 1978.

And my Japanese high end integrated amp: Denon PMA-850 from 1977.

My first experience of the high end was at a hifi shop called 'The Music Room' at Bridge Street in Manchester, England. I had gone to demonstrate a system I should have bought: Michell Focus 1 turntable, Sugden A21A integrated amplifier and Infinity Reference 10 speakers. That would have been some starter system for an 18 year old working class lad from Moss Side Manchester!
The beguiling sounds seeping down the stairs led me to The Source turntable, feeding some Audio Research and Krell amplifiers, into Magneplanars. Bloody hell, my horizons changed that day!

Pioneer M-22, anyone? A nice little class A at 30WPC. A beautiful sounding piece too.

That's a beautiful thing, though I have never seen one in the flesh. Pioneer created some terrific kit, as did a lot of the major Japanese manufacturers when they really tried to show the world the capabilities afforded by extensive research and development.

Kind of true but more like an exercise in making a state of the art statement piece.

Indeed. The statement pieces remain state of the art in my opinion. They could of course only produce those because of the R&D though.
My Technics DAC is a case in point. I have not seen a DAC with the attention to detail before or since.

    First, welcome to AK!!

Second, if you spend 25 bucks and become a subscriber, someone on Bartertown would pony up for one of those.

Have a good time here, and perhaps consider starting an introductory thread about yourself, and then mention what you'd like to sell.

I guess all Mark B's have an affliction for Pioneer M22's Super beauty unit. I have the Pioneer M25. LOL still in it's box though. I have recently started to set up some of my collection after some 40 years collecting. I almost sold my M25. Glad I kept it. I had it connected to Athena AVM 30. Lots or grunt coming from those topside cap's.
    Cheers
