Do you think the industries are watching

Do you think people from the audio industries or that have financial interests are watching and participating on audio forums like AK??

**Sorry I wanted to do a poll, but I got a bug*"

I think they look for trends like the resurgence of vinyl and access of music through the internet. Their business men with a bottom line. That being said the people who create the sound do their job, and the money men watch the bottom line.
Steve Hoffman reads his forums and I remember some one posting on Audiogon a decade ago about issues with a Tice Power Block and George Tice responded to his question.

Absolutely. Not only are they watching, they're collecting our data and selling our personal information. Two words that never belong in the same sentence are "corporate" and "ethics." Oxymoron supreme!

Example: My brother lives in Atlanta and came up for a short visit a few years back. He had his oil changed at a Goodyear while he was here. Now I receive all kinds of junk mail with his name but my address.

Yes and more so on other sites, reps, manufacturers and owners of production of audio equipment actively participate on sites. They are there to help and interact, as well as enjoy the hobby. Everyone you can imaging are active on sites in the audio world, Reviewers, assembly personnel, professional installers, Stage and PA audio you name it.

However AK is lacking in manufacture support, look at your sig, your not a buyer of new equipment, so why would they support the site with sponsorship, and promotions.

You need fix-it stuff and they are here to.

Then AK members also have the negativity to new equipment and anything that might be out of a price point past basic 30-40 and 50 year old equipment. I see a lot of snarky trolling and thread topics to belittle the audio world in general. I can't see a manufacturer wanting to be around here and deal with that. Hell we'v had designers of old equipment run off because of that type of mentality of constant naysaying and negativity form know it alls.

Anyway some are still here and supportive, some are just starting a business building equipment, some let member know some just read.

Small, specialist, niche firms who consider audiophiles their core market not only watch, they sometimes participate.

Large, general-consumer companies might include us as some small part of their aggregate market analysis, and individuals within such companies almost certainly participate as themselves rather than as a company representative, but we're not really their target market. Sony, Onkyo, Yamaha, Harman/Kardon, etc. aren't going to create an "AK Special" series of separates, for example. This may be a fairly big forum, but compared to the consumer market as a whole we're a tiny, oddball gaggle of unlikely buyers that are of little interest to a big company and that do not represent their target market.

You REALLY need a new rap. Your constant insulting comments about who cant afford new equipment (based on assumptions you make) is getting really beyond the pale. How do you know what every poster can afford? You make the bigoted argument that every person that likes vintage equipment does not have the money to buy the same items you choose to. This is what the definition of your posts as I see it.

big·ot
ˈbiɡət/
noun
noun: bigot; plural noun: bigots
a person who is intolerant toward those holding different opinions.

I'm in the audio business and I come to AK because I deeply appreciate seeing people have fun with gear that in many cases I would not even trashpick, some of which the posters proudly announce is, in fact. trashpicked!! Can't beat that!

This is not a slam...I think this is what it should be all about. Doing what you like with what you like. AKers are having good heathy fun.

AK is a breath of fresh air and normalcy, and part of that for me is that the mainstream contemporary high end world is largely ignored or secondary.

I also appreciate that this is a very helpful community and occasionally try to pitch in when I can be useful.

I am a subscriber and have been for some years. This is one of my favorite forums and one of the few that I occasionally post on.

I seriously doubt that many mainstream manufacturers come here for market intelligence. Maybe for their own hobby interests, like me. Probably some small shops targeting the hobby crowd would find their people here, since most would be hobbyist themselves. Many folks in the industry are into various vintage gear and whatnot, on one level or another.

Almost anybody in audio will take a moment to spin the flywheel knob on a Marantz receiver if they get a chance, especially if old enough to remember them when they were the hot snot thing back in the day. I don't necessarily want one now, but I sure do respect that item.

Generally, I find that the industry lags far behind the specialist forums and the DIY crowd. Much of what the serious cats are doing on the forums is too experimental or niche to appeal to folks really trying to move boxes. There is a question of attracting enough sales to justify production and make profit. They'll get there eventually but by them the edge of the art will have moved on.

And AKers will still be jamming with old Pioneer receivers and a pr of Polks or whatever. Cool!

Nelson Pass is an active contributor over on diyaudio. He put together a VFET amp kit based on now unobtainable Sony VFETs for anyone to enjoy - he's a great contributor to the diy scene

Yeah they are watching I think, analyzing, crunching numbers in hopes of making bucks on an ever aging demographic. While I too am aging, they don't make a lot off of me as I really don't have the thousands to throw down on the new stuff. I'm glad that some do as having someone actually interested in new audio in this age of diverging interests competing for our time helps keep hi fidelity music reproduction alive and not just let it all go to poor quality sources and equipment from Walmart.

I think they will watch, the interesting thing would be if such forum attracts new youngsters or not. I think such is valuable information. No flow of young people, the less interesting such forum would be.
Now, AK is one of the better forums to do that, although this is a mostly USA forum, it attacts many people from small countries too, where the general audio forums community is not big enough (anymore) for participating/chatting because it is always the same people talking about the same things.

The same over here on AK, but at least it is such amount of people participating, it always stays interesting, so I think that there are enough people around to be a marketing information source for specific audio business.
