Could be!!Agreed, I am a big fan of the M75 for just that reason. Maybe alignment was off and creating distortion.

LOL, me toI know but I think I need a new pair of ears!!
It's the V15 III and the guy who lent me the 1209 restores Duals, so the setup is excellent. I found out the guy who setup the 1019 didn't really know his stuff. This older Duals, are really amazing looking and sounding tables.Nice.
That looks like a Shure M95 or maybe a V15 on there. Both of those SHOULD have a similar sound to the M75, which brings us back to the stylus or alignment of the one you had. The stylus was probably toast.
Yes the setup was not that good on the 1019, much better on the 1209. I have an R-115 great receiver. As above ideas, probably the cartridge and phono stage.
My Dual 721 sounds fatiguing with an AT95HE and Luxman R-115 phono stage.
100% better with a Grado Blue and Yamaha C-50 preamp.[/QUOT
The treble was just +3 on my Sansui AU-7900 amp, so not high at all.
The 1019 is a very nice table. Actually the 1019 was the best looking table I've seen but sent it back due to mechanical problems. I'm not a DIYer. This 1209 has that classic look that we love about the Duals and all the controls are working fine and it is built like a tank!! Your 1226 is very similar in looks to the 1209. I'm running a Shure V15 III on it and it sounds very good.I have both the 1019 working, and the 1209, but with issues yet to be assessed. I'll tell you the difference when I hear the 1209. I also have a working 1226 right now. The 1226 and the 1209 use the same cartridge sled so I'll compare those 2 when I get them. I'm quite enjoying a Shure m44 with a new stylus on it playing on my 1019. I think it will fit nicely in my future bedroom console.

OK thanks for the info, I will put it on the lowest setting. When it's working right the AU 7900 is amazing. Someone is selling an AU 7700 locally, I'm going to go have a look at it.The Sansui AU-7900 has 3 selectable treble frequency settings, 2k, 4k and 6k. With the treble at +3 and set at 4 or 6k could be an issue.
Thanks for that just downloaded it.Sansui AU-7900

Will do and I have the manual.Yes, that would do that. And you need to pay attention to those settings. And if possible hunt the manual somewhere.
