Favorite Bourbon

Did in a bottle of Knob Creek last week with a buddy of mine. Forgot how smooth it was. Being 100 proof, it is a lot smoother than most 80s out there. I had it as a Xmas gift. May get another soon, but at $37, plus tax a fifth I will make this one last longer than one sitting.

Killed off my bottle of Angel's Envy over the weekend, both a sad and pleasing experience. How come every bourbon I like keeps going up in price? AE retails for roughly $45 round these parts. Used to be<$40.

I feel your pain. My first 1.75l of Ezra Brooks 90 proof was about $21, it now sells for $25+. Still, very good dark and complex for the price.

I picked up some lower priced bourbons while traveling last week. A 1.75L four Roses Yellow Label for $36, A 1.75L 86 proof Very Old Barton for $20 and a 1.75L Larceny for $39 which had a $20 rebate on it that I only noticed after getting it home. That made me happy. I have never tried the VOB but it has been mentioned favorably in this thread.

I remember when I could find Weller 107 fairly regularly for about $20 a fifth...
Thosee days are long gone in NYC, I don't even look for Weller, Elmer T Lee and forget about any Van Winkle. The only "Better" bourbons I can find with regularity any more are Four Roses Single Barrel, Knob Creek & Woodford.

Yeah same here, in NC. The thing is that it wasn't all that long ago, really. I'm talking late 2000's. Stupid Bourbon Renaissance.

I got one of the many weekly sale mailers from local liquor stores. One says:

Hand selected by McScrooge's! This is our second Single Barrel from Barrell Bourbon. We bottled barrel #5D30 at cask strength, coming in at 105.6 proof.

McScrooge's Feature Price: $99.99

So... a pig in a poke for taste and only $100 for a fifth (3/4 liter).

I have about 50 different bourbons amongst other whiskeys. I tend to prefer the cask strength stuff like Booker’s.
But right now my current favorite is Four Roses Single Barrel Cask Strength. So good!
