My Ka5700/kt5300 did not come with side panels. They look simple enough to make.Got some from a kr 3090 that are similar, just longer and give me a template. Got me some 1x6 american cherry (walnut just too expensive). Got a table saw and a planing blade, and a planer if necessary. Gonna try a .couple of different stains on the scrap before I make the final choice. Will take PICs. Jim

Take pictures! Would love to have them made for my Kenwoods someday..

I think a great little cottage business would be creating CNC designs for all these vintage classics out there. I am sure there are lots of places that could then churn out great looking pieces that could be assembled at their destination.

Well that was fairly easy. All 4 panels in about a half hour. Cut to size. Beveled to match original. recess cut for faceplate. Trial finishes on scraps top just 2 coats of clear, next 2 coats golden pecan no clear, next 2 coats black walnut, no clear. The original Kenny walnut veneer for example. I sorta like the middle one, the flash made the clear coated one look much better than it really does 20170627_132302.jpg 20170627_132349.jpg 20170627_132425.jpg 20170627_132302.jpg 20170627_132349.jpg 20170627_132425.jpg

As a wood guy, just out of curiosity, how much was walnut and the cherry that you ended up buying, and was that local or shipped in?

I've thought of offering blanks for this kind of thing on AK one of these days.

What are the measurements on those panels?

The cherry was $5 per bd ft in 1x6, Oak was like 2.50, Walnut was $10. From Home depot. Took approx 1/4 off the width and the length was 10 1/8, maybe an extra 2" for a KR receiver

Two coats of stain and four coats of clearcoat. Now steel wool and a few more coats of clear, and drill the holes.

Well the amp panels are done. One side of the tuner panels was not quite right. Seems the panel I was using for a template (From a KR3090) was just different enough to spoil the fitment. Seems the holes are off by an 1/8 inch. Well next week as I am going to make same panels for my STR 7055 and we will whip out a new one for the KT5300. These are not perfect but they look great. Will make a handsome pair

Nice work, they look terrific. The end grain facing the front looks really good also, l wondered if this would be a concern when l have thought about doing some in the past but yours look great.

Will finish this up when I get back from the Grey Fox bluegrass Festival in a week.
