How do EMITs die?

I snapped the trace on the Emits in one of my Qbs repeatedly when the protection relay on my SX-1050 closed after being triggered by an overload at high volume levels. The incoming transient was too much for it. Never blew the fuse though.

I looked for a smaller size fuse at the hardware store, but my dumb ass was confused. Do I want the "fast blow" variety or the "slow blow?"
