Infinity Qb Transformation

Thanks for that info...I would have never been so precise with those measurements.

I finally swapped out the iron core inductor:

These speakers sing!!!

So how much do they weigh now ??? Those cabinets look heavy !!!

Does it sound that different , replacing the woofer iron core inductor? And the original air core for the mid?

I've reccaped mine, but leaved the inductors and pot alone, changed caps and the resistor.

Here I have the drawing I've used to rebuild mine:
https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/1640933/infinity/pie_Qb.pdf

All measurements in centimemeter. Round to standard values, small differences come from the innaccurate CAD drawing.

The 1.2 cm dent should match the gap at the back of your cabinet.

Material thickness is 6mm .

I hope this will help other people too.

Here are some pictures:

What's the capacitor size on yours? 9.5uF?

Thanks Elnado,

Unfortunetly I checked back too late and your links does not work.
Can you share them again,please.

Try removing the "s" from "https" to "http". I've edited my previous post to remove the "s".

Very nice work! I have been following this post and have enjoyed watching you extract every bit of goodness that you could from these. I particularity enjoy the slurry and cabinet treatments. I want to try it my self and I know just where to do it. There are several old Boston Acoustics speakers that sound great but seem flimsy. They have the shallow boxes and not a lot of weight. I want to see what happens with your slurry and some bracing as well as the other improvements. I am watching for a pair and I'll post pics when I find them. Thank you very much.
Rob

Very nice indeed. I might try the bracing and slurry in my NLA's I recently acquired. I have the sand and paint already. Whats the other speakers in your pics? They look very familiar.

Years ago when I was building car subs, I would paint the interiors of my cabs with paint. Just ordinary paint, brushed on. I felt the bass was cleaner and tighter that way.

I know that this is an old thread, but does anybody have copies of those files for the speaker stands (the link doesn't seem to work, even if I delete the 's')? Or some basic info on the geometry and dimensions of them? More photos?!?

I just got a pair of Qe on Craigslist and would love to build a modified version of these Qb stands! They look really sweet, but I'm not sure that I even completely understand how they work (structurally)...

elnaldo is still around (is on AK tonight actually). If he doesn't respond here, start a conversation with him and ask if he still has the file(s).

Welcome to AK also!

I finally got a pair of the original metal stands. I found them to be "bouncy".
