Issues With New Turntables - Rega / Pro-Ject

Hanpin could be capable of mfg a competent table some day but given the unrealistic low price points that Hanpin has to work with from Audio Technica, Pioneer, Stanton etc it's next to impossible to come close to even the first generation 1970 SL-1200 let alone the 2018 SL-1200GR. Another factor is that the tables from AT, Pioneer, Stanton etc are intended for DJ scratching use and only require the same physical layout as the SL-1200 and not the Technics high level of precision/build quality/performance.

BSR/Quantra (believe it or not) were known for DJ/TT use. A DJ TT is a crude/hard life for a machine, but it takes a very well built deck that is capable of handling multiple levels of abuse, almost on a constant basis. This was a very good reason why the Technics 1200's became the hallmark for DJs. They also happen to be very well crafted, and IMO was one of the better turntable makes (outside of the ultra expensive audiophile hand-made examples).

Turntable artistry and competence are qualities that (for the most part) were lost after CDs became the top music media during the 90's.

To the poster that said you have to by a Project turntable above $1500 to get a good one: I bought a $1500 Project and I had to have the motor replaced in less than 1 year. It started clicking. The new motor is fine (for now).
