Marantz 2230 Transistor Sub

What is the universally agreed upon sub for the 2sc943 in the tone circuit these days? I have a flaky one that needs replacing.

Perhaps you have transposed the transistor number. Most 2230 tone boards (PCB 400) that I have seen use 4 2SC493 transistors and 4 2SC1000. If your problem is with a SC492, you can use KSA992 as a substitute.

You are correct. Its the 2sc493! I'm not dealing well with old age. Just had to start using reading glasses! What is the sub for that? I tried searching here but could not find that.

It's 2sa493, a PNP transistor, that can be subbed with KSA992 and 2sc1000, a NPN transistor, that can be substituted by KSC1845.
