Did you see that quick count play by Buffalo that was whistled dead because the zebras weren’t ready? WTF? Slackers. The continuing reliance on tech is screwing the NFL pooch.
End of rant

Nothing new, I've seen the play stopped many times over the yrs for the officials to be set.

I lost my love affair with sports about 20 years ago. It has never returned, and while I feel a sense of sadness, it's just not at all important to life.
As a race of creatures, humanity has far larger fish to fry than the observance of titans with overactive pituitary glands placing either a 12'' ball in an 18'' hole, or scrambling up and down a lined cow pasture with pigskin tucked under their arm.

Then, there is the sales pitch coming at you in a continual, full-frontal assault. No thanks.

Football?
My housemate is across the house with 20 casino betting tickets, 2 laptops and 3 tv's on the wall in front of him.
Gambling and playing the all wonderful "fantasy football" .
Football is 11 minutes of action stretched to 3 hours of commercials and standing around.
"Football is a series of many meetings punctuated by brief periods of action" - George Will
Know how the ratings are down at least 10% this year? I am one of the reasons.
Bores me to tears while trying to sell me something every 2 minutes.
No thanks. I'll read and listen to music.
Escaped the Football plantation a few years back and don;t miss it.
I'll take rugby over football any day.

I watch a little football with my son, but I'm a tennis junkie. I do like that the rules of tennis only allow 45 seconds between change overs and 1.5 minutes between sets... definitely cuts down on the number of commercials, and keeps the ones that are shown short.

My grandfather got me into tennis but I’m a casual observer at best.

I did catch the absolute epic battle of Nadal v Thiem final the other night which ended at 2:00 ET.
4:40 long if memory serves but man was it a freaking slugfest. Wow.

This thread was intended to be about the state of NFL officiating not whether the game is liked and certainly not the politics around the game. Hopefully it won’t get closed. So to restate my point in the form of a question for NFL fans that actually watch the game - do you think that the technology has made the referees soft and that games are not being called as well as before they were working with an electronic net?

Lighten up. Politics is part of the game now. It is not part of AK and I made no judgement one way or the other.

As for the opening proposition, this topic is far from new or original. Getting the call right over-rides any other consideration including the stupid thought that refs are going soft.

There's alot more wrong with sports than just electronic vs human officiating.
Example: Technically, it is a touchdown once the player extends he football over the goal line while it's still in his possession and he's not "down". Yet, now they say the player has to have possession through the play - all the way to the ground. Then why do they call it a touchdown if he extends the ball over the goal line, but the steps out of bounds without his body crossing the goal line? Totally ignorant.

Baseball - they can electronically show balls and strikes, close plays at the bases, etc. Why even have umpires? All the bitching about speeding the game up, yet there are tons of delays due to play reviews.

And don't even get me started on stupid golf rules!

Nice people skills there Sam. Tell me to lighten up and then call my point stupid. Nothing really to get worked up about. Oh well moving on, nothing to see here.

I think football is at the end of it's popularity. I see a lot of people not letting their children play high school football because their afraid of injuries. Soccer is gaining in popularity because so many kids play it now, although it's certainly not free of injuries. Things change.

Bill Maher once joked that "Football is a bunch of millionaires on steroids playing before a crowd of drunks." I thought that was funny.

No sports here.
bunch of overpaid primadonnas and then the whole take a knee thing,no way.

Humor missed on you. Your topic has been discussed forever in baseball circles. There is nothing new to be discovered.

In rugby football, one must touch the ball to the ground within the endzone to score; gridiron football kept the term but keeps changing the rule.

It has been interesting watching association football work out how to add electronic aids and video use to the officiating, in such a way as to keep the game moving, as that is the tradition. 45 minute halves with no timeouts nor commercials keeps me watching footy on TV.

I'm somewhat to blame for this, Elcoholic. I'm very sorry I posted what I did, wasn't trying to derail your thread, bud. Nothing wrong with watching a game, sorry I got rant-y.

I'm still steaming over GGG's "loss" to Canelo Alvarez. Boxing's status as king of the crooked sports remains alive and well.
