Mx110 “veneer” faceplate?

A local enthusiast is selling me this mx110... i was trying to find in the web other units with this veneer on the sides of the faceplate, but could not... do you guys have any info on this version?… he bought the unit about 15 years ago in the US from the original owner....

Looks like someone wanted it to look like a Fisher receiver.

My thinking is the black paint was going bad on the glass and fitting some veneer in behind the knobs looked better to a past owner than the bubbled paint.

jeje the original owner thought it was cool looking.... I guess to each its own... I finally bought the unit along with a parir of mc40 amps... the veneer will be gone as soon as I can stop listening to them .... what a sweet sounding little -and old- system!

Radio Daze makes beautiful reproductions for all three versions of the MX110. They're great to work with. Since they hadn't made one yet, they had me send the old glass from my C11 in and used it as a template. That's why they now list them for sale.
