Bought an entry level Sony avr for our bedroom. (Model STR DH590). It’s smaller than most receivers I’ve seen, about the size of a high end cassette deck from the 70s. I figured for two channel use focusing on HDMI switching it might be all I need. (There’s a real lack of stereo receivers that have HDMI btw...).
After connecting everything in just a few minutes I can report that it’s a very capable unit. I’m using a Sony Blu-ray player, Apple TV, cable box, and a Mac mini all via HDMI to a Samsung display. The little Sony pushes a pair of Monitor Audio Silver S2 bookshelves to a room filling level with no problem and switching sources is nearly instantaneous. Bluetooth through my phone connected on the first attempt so I can stream Spotify very nicely. This unit will pass 4k so if/when I make that leap I should be all set for years. For the current low price it’s remarkable what you get. Highly recommended for a secondary system.
