New addition - AU-919

Take it easy my friend...this is supposed to be a winter job :D

I know, I know, I can scarcely help myself...

But you know later on there will be time for adjustments  listening tests :yes: MORE listening tests :D

Kevzep what line of caps did you decide to use?

Was this a question for Kevzep? - or for me?

EDIT: I have just thought, the answer would be much the same in either case - Panasonic FC/FM +Nichicon FG,

Thats what I would have said John..........:thmbsp:

Here are a few more pictures of the restore, the file names should be self explanatory. I didn't take pictures of absolutely every stage and I took a lot of pictures to help me. These are of limited value here unless you are doing a restore, in which case you can take your own to satisfy your needs.

A few points to note

Driver board F-2839
C19, C20, C39, C40 = 3.3µF 63v – not on schematic (I used WIMA film replacements)

Head amp MC F-2833
Silk screening for positions of C11, C13 transposed, also C14, C12.
VR03, VR05 and VR04, VR06 are 33KΩ – fitted 50KΩ. (no problems setting +/- 10v)

Head amp MM F-2835
VR01, VR02 not 220Ω but 330Ω – fitted 200Ω (no problems setting DC offset)

Flat Amp F2841
5pF black flags not present, 2 positions missing and 2 positions vacant.

Protector F-2840
C601 was a 47µF 50v (not 100µF 50v as on schematic)

PSU F-2844
C08 not 1000µF, 10V but 100µF, 10v - also polarity silk screening for C07 & C08 is reversed. And R02 on schematic is incorrectly labelled 3.9KΩ, when it should be 3.9Ω

PSU F-2845
C13, 11 and C14, 12 not 100µf but 220µf

Stats
Replaced components 145 (4 missing in pic below)
Poor joints by Sansui 3

Finally here are the removed components below... the MM amp after, Front view, and Top view, and visitors ?

It's nice to see such a well made job :thmbsp:
IMHO is very important to clean all the switches and selectors (like you did),...last time I worked at one Sony receiver, bigger change in sound was when all the switches were cleaned but when I replaced all caps.
Oh yeah, and a replacement of all the trimmers is a great thing too...amp will be stable and drifting of bias and dc are past tense.
Caps on the last picture look just like soldiers before battle :D

PS-place holders are a nasty thing....hate them :D

Thanks Pepa, I have a bit more work to do - cleaning outside and some inside - also the input sockets are a worry - the plating seems to have deteriorated badly (except the gold plated ones - which are fine) so I'll have to think what I can do about that.

At the moment I am still testing, and it has the bottom and top covers still off - so it'll be a while before any 'glamour pics'

:thmbsp:

Is one of those units that I always wanted to have, it comes from the best years in Sansui amplifiers, in my opinion. I have an AU819, family of the AU919, and it sounds quite good, sometime I asked to someone here who had the two amplifiers and he told me that the sound was quite similar, I hope so.

Beautiful job. Those oval caps are something else. I recall one AK'er that made new caps out of the old shells.
You winter project is done before winter. Now you will have to find another!

Are you going to have a crack at the Oval caps John?

Its very satisfying when you get them together and know they are good to go for another 30 years......

Just dont do what I did and remove the plastic sleeving......you just cut them away from the base so you can open out the can to get the insides out...

:lurk:
