Welcome to AK - lots of knowledge here. If you are just getting into this, I suggest doing some homework to familiarize yourself with the different brands - find out what's good and no so good, Get an idea of prices. Then, start getting gear by checking out the thrift stores, garage/estate sales and auctions. I've picked up quite a lot of good gear doing this, only bought from Ebay a few times, sometimes you can get a deal off CL too. You just need to make sure you know what you are buying.
