Nitty Gritty, Inc. has closed its doors

I don't understand why they closed vs sold to another as mentioned above. I am confident there were folks in the marketplace that would have interest given the resurgence of vinyl. Did I miss something here?

The resurgence of vinyl has created new brands that offer products similar to the old companies, but sell them for much less. Nitty Gritty is selling less, the audio community is still buying the same quantity or more products they offer, just from new lower price brand choices with good advertising, unfortunately for us old audio brand fans, it happens to the best of them.

Apparently there are legal issues complicating the transfer of ownership of the company. Agree it would be nice to see the company continue under new ownership continuing the excellent product line, KAB would be my pick. Many reincarnations of old familiar brands have turned out badly as in DiscWasher with product now being mfg in China with inferior level of quality but the price is the same as when it was made in the USA. Many new , younger and even older buyers aren't aware that the owners and the product has changed for the worse. Record Doctor used to be made by Nitty Gritty, Record Doctor now made in you know where.

I've had my Record Doctor for...maybe 2 years now? I've made replacement lips out of the fuzz side of adhesive velcro strips. I use it frequently, and keep it next to my turntable. The main issue with the unit is overheating, which is warned against in the instructions. This is not a RCM to sit down and clean 100 records continuously with the motor running the whole time. I do mine as needed, a record at a time, and even when doing multiple records it gets shut off for a bit between records.

Here's my method, using homebrew RCM fluid:

1. Get a good paint pad to use instead of the supplied applicator.
2. Place record on platter.
3. Squirt a loop of fluid around the record from a small squirt bottle
4. Spread fluid evenly using paint pad.
5. Using short scrubby motions with the grooves, scrub in a back and forth manner for at least one revolution of the record.
6. Flip record, repeat steps 3 - 5
7. Turn on vacuum motor, turn record manually two turns slowly. Leave vac running, flip record, clean other side 2 turns slowly.
8. Turn off motor.
9. Remove and play (or put back in sleeve).

It is with much happiness that we wish to inform you that Nitty Gritty Record Care Products will be continuing operations under New Management in 2018! Kevin Berg, of Audiophile Import Specialists, and consultant for the highly respected Audiophile Company, Elusive Disc, Inc. will be continuing the Nitty Gritty Record Care Products business and all current product lines in early 2018.

FYI. I spoke to Kevin Berg (the new owner of Nitty Gritty) yesterday. He said that Pure 2 record cleaning solution would be available in the half gallon size at Elusive Disc by the end of this week (although it may not be up on their website yet). He said other sizes, fluids and parts would follow very shortly. He also said that he will be selling certain parts for the machines directly. The old Nitty Gritty phone number directs to him: (909) 625-5525. He was very helpful and encouraged me to call him directly if I had any questions or needed help finding a part.

Nitty Gritty is Back ... 15 minute mark on Analog Planet YouTube video at AXPONA 2018 show. Michael Fremer talks to new owner.

Nice to know I can get parts and won’t have to fabricate everything myself. I hope they’ll offer everything a NG owner may need, even if the machines are very old models..
My main NG is a 3.5fi from the ‘80s. I recently had to replace the electric fluid pump using something totally non-original, and added a bigger reservoir. Works fine though. ^_^
