We recently got a new receiver which has pumped new life into our stereo system... and our lives really! My turntable and speakers are now the only surviving components from my original, kickass (is a little swearing okay?) 1980 set up.
I came here to reasearch styli, but I'm having so much fun reawakening my old audiophile self, that this looks like a good playground to hang out in.
We were sad to say goodbye to the old Technic receiver and tape deck. I've got a simple Kenwood tape deck now, and the weird new fancy Pioneer Elite receiver. Due to budget constraints, the receiver is pretty basic for sound, but it has lots of watts and all the channels so we can great enjoy movie sound and easy mobile device access. Full confession, my son is a sound engineer and computer IT guy, so I let him choose the right receiver and set it up. (That always used to be my job!)
My speakers are big ol RTR Series III that still sound pretty amazing. I'm proud of their old school grandeur.
Every device sounds different through the receiver, so I'm still figuring out how to manage that. I can also see that we simply adjust to the different sound quality, i.e., when I first put albums on, they sound odd. But after listening for a while, then the albums sound awesome and then the Bluetooth sounds wretched.
The best part about all this was watching our son (who is a sound engineer for good reason, he has an incredible ear) be absolutely mind blown by the sound quality of a good vinyl. We've brought up all the old albums, and have been buying up new vinyl known for best quality. It's like a whole new old world. And it's amazing to watch our son get hooked. (I feel bad for his credit score.)
Thanks for reading my very long intro.
