Opinions On Teak for SX-850

I have an SX-850 with damage to the wood veneer on one side. There is about a two inch strip from top to bottom on the right hand side at the back of the case. It's unsightly.

Currently the unit has the original walnut veneer which I like, but I am afraid that repairing and matching the 40 year old finish would be next to impossible without looking repaired.

So I have some nice real teak veneer that I am considering using to refinish the case.

What do you think? Stay with the original or refinish with teak?

I say make the unsightly slightly.

Tweak to teak... SX850 is a sweet rig.

Took a unsightly SX750 and Installed oak veneer... was happy with the results.

Teak usually will lose some contrast between the dark grain and light golden grain. After a year or so of exposure to air- teak will start to patina with a nice warm orange like glow. Walnut also warms in appearance but takes much much longer. Maybe give the veneer a little teak oil. I bet it looks awesome

I like, but rarely see, cherry veneer on audio equipment.
You normally see walnut as a sort of baseline for veneered cabinets.

For some reason, I cannot get attached to oak veneer on electronics.
I cannot rationalize why that is, but it does not look right to my eye for some odd reason.
