    IMO, the only thing that makes fiber & glass toslink inferior is audiophile lore.

    I have both, plugged into different R2R DACs. My toslink is glass, DH Labs, highly rated, the co-ax is similarly inexpensive and highly rated (Wireworld, I believe). There's not much of a difference to my ears, altho I would characterize the co-ax as a little deeper, more "stable" (less treble edge), and in general a more rounded tone but not necessarily restricted at either end (low/hi). The co-ax does tend to bury vocals, but that might be a function of the Rega DAC.
