Pilot 248

I recently acquired this from an estate sale. The guy said it was his fathers. He said he thought it worked but was unsure how to hook it up. He said it has never had any work done on it. I only tried the the tuner input with left and right speakers and It does work and sounds pretty nice. surprisingly only a few scratchy controls and the little panel with the rca inputs is a little loose. obviously it needs to be gone through and cleaned etc. I cant do it and there is no repair shops in Bend Oregon. I would like to find a new home for it and would like help on the value.

A little rare, yes. Pictures don't seem to show perfect cosmetics. So if it is original and in need of a refurb (even if it works), then my guess is that pricing is in the $750 range.

Nice Amp!

Yes...I agree, around $750....which leaves room for a restoration.
That said....ebay is fickle, you might not get what you want....but you could get a lot more.

That amp is the top of the line for later Pilot gear, IMO. I think the specs say 28 watts per channel?

Pilot did make a 248B which had a silver face and knobs...for a more modern look, but basically the same amp.

The 248B is actually 37 watts per channel. Is this amp still up for sale ?

Hi aaaDougFord,

Hey, info on the Pilot 248B is very hard to find!

If you have any documentation, I’d really appreciate your posting about.

Welcome to AK!

I'm considering picking up 2 Pilot 248s locally. They appear to have been sitting a long time and are missing knobs. They are described as for parts or rebuild. What would be a market price for these?

Nearly half the value comes down to the condition of the transformers. The rest is split among 1) tubes, 2) cosmetics, and 3) everything else. A pair as parts should be 50% of regular at most, and that is if the tubes are included.
