Pioneer Spec 1

Hi guys,

Can I use the Spec 1 just as amplifier? Or in order to work need the power amp?

I am afraid that you will need an amplifier or some powered speakers. Nice Spec btw.

You need power amp. The Spec-1 is slightly misleading because it has speaker switching circuits, but those circuits depend upon an external power amplifier's output to energize them. It is strictly a convenience feature, to have speaker switching controls on the same panel as the rest of the preamp specific controls.

ALSO, the headphones jack ONLY works with an external power amplifier input as well.

Sorry it is a preamp only so you need a power amp like a Spec 2 or 4
I think you thought it was an integrated amp like SA9900 or SA9500 which can be used as either.

Edit I just saw your other post of your Spec 4 you have... so you got what you need!
I would replace the SA 9500II with Spec 1 and keep the SA9500II as insurance if either of your spec units need repair.

As Mark mentioned:
The back and forth speaker wiring to and from the main amp can cause confusion. Seems straight forward at first. Concentration to the wiring task is required. I think it was the reason I got the Spec 1 and 2 so cheap. The guy thought something was wrong with the units. Once connected correctly they operated perfectly.

I got a blue line rack, still looking for a SA9800 instead my nice 9500II, the Spec1 and Spec4 was found in a complete rack, which is miracle these days, I paid usd$1000 for the rack
