I'm looking for some advice on what to do with my Denon AVR-2113ci. A couple of years ago, the network card was getting flaky (would not connect to my LAN) and I like to use the network music (Spotify, Pandora, etc). I could often do a network microprocessor reset (Zone 2 Source/Dimmer) and it would work again for a few weeks. Eventually it was too much trouble and I bought a Denon X-3000 to replace it and stashed the 2113ci. Well, I'm cleaning out my closets and I need to decide what to do with it. I was hoping to get it working again and sell it or give it to a family member. (Everything worked well except for network services.) So I hooked it up and it will not connect to the LAN or be assigned an IP as before. In the Network Setup, only the Information section is available and it says DHCP is on, but no IP address. No matter how many times now I try to do a network microprocessor reset, it still will not be assigned an IP. So, I tried to update with the latest firmware available for the model (it was not on the latest) via the USB. I formatted a USB stick FAT32 and put one directory (000100580100) on the stick with the 7 bin/bcd files in the directory. I unplugged the avr, inserted the USB stick, held Tuner Preset - /Status down, plugged it back in, I got an option on the screen to start update, I start the update. It appears to be trying to update, but after a couple minutes, the AVR readout says Bootup failed and my attached monitor says "System is busy. Please try again later." No matter how many times I try, it does the same thing.
So....what to do. Do I trash/recycle the AVR? If so, I just want to hear it from someone so I can let go emotionally. (I like to fix things. I've repaired all my laptops, etc for years, but I'm at a point where I do have my limits as to how much work I want to put it something.) Does some expert here have another idea for me to try? I did read on one of the threads about a RS-232 firmware write which is something I don't know about. I suspect that after reading some threads that the mobo/network card is screwed and possibly could be fixed if someone knew what they were doing, (i.e., use a solder gun - which is just beyond my capabilities and I don't really want to learn). Do you think someone would pay $20 or more for the receiver off craigslist without the network services? I just want to fix it so someone can get some use out of it or recycle it so I can get it out of my house and out of my mind. I just hate trashing it.
