I ordered a couple NTE289A replacements and they seem to be ok. But they are supposed to be paired with 290A.
I'm working on the power supply board for sx 950. All I could find were the NTE replacements and I couldn't get the 290 to replace the 2sa720's.
Someone had replaced one of the 1318's with a tip31b and it was working but was noisy.
Just wondered if any one has any other replacements for 2sc1318 or 2sa720?

Strange on the to-220. He had it mounted on the bottom of the board.
    Appreciate the links.

The power supply of the Marantz 4400 has three 2sc1318's - TO-92 it looks like. You are saying its OK to use Radio Shack's 2n4401's ?

I might have to try them

I find it hard to believe Radio Shack carries something worthy of putting in cherished vintage gear :)

The 2sc1318 is an npn ecb 50v, 0.5a 0.625w 85-350hfe 200 mhz transistor with eCB layout

the 2n4401 is an npn ebc 60v, 0.6a 0.625w 100-300hfe 250 mhz transistor. with eBC layout

    so watch the pinouts!!

plus from a sx-1010 thread that eventually focused on phono amps:

Because RatShack can buy them for $0.06 each and sell them for $1.99 each, sure...they'll carry them.

2N4401 & 2N4403 are 'open' numbers...anyone can make one and put these numbers on 'em. The only ones I trust are from On-Semi or Fairchild.
