Hi all,
I posted this on the tube amp section so I decided to include it here, so i have a
Airline tube and it has a few of the original Sangamo coupling caps in it, it it be wise
to change them out. the amp sounds good I changed all the electrolytic's and a few
resistor's but these caps are 57 years old and thinking about changing them.
Thanks

It may sound quite different with all new caps. You may not like it any longer.

Contrary to stereo gear where you want it to be "in spec", some guitar amps sound absolutely fabulous due to the different aging of the components.

I have a 50's Valco that needed repair (it didn't work, and the problem wasn't tubes, speakers, or wire) so I sent it to a Valco specialist for some TLC. It was returned with all original failed caps that were replaced.

Play it until it dies.

The only thing I would change is install a three-prong cord and make sure its not a "death cap" amp. If so, get rid of it.

I meant get rid of the death cap, not the amp...

I should have worded that better. Enjoy that old puppy.
