Sansui 7070 found at dump

Dropped off extra XMas boxes at dump this morning and popped into the electronics bin for a peak and there it was laying on its side. Grabbed it ASAP and headed to the back of the van. That sucker is heavy. Have not tested it yet, had a Panasonic opened up today and promised my daughter I would open the little Realistic boom box next so she could see what a cassette is. Lol.

Can’t wait to fire the 7070 up and see what we have. With any luck it just needs little be and cleaning and maybe a new antenna on the back. Missing the audio muting button, can that be replaced? (Rhetorical) I will find out when we crack her open.

Nice find! Hope it works. It looks like the muting button may have just fallen off at some point (maybe when it was put in the electronics bin?). The plastic piece the button fits on appears to be intact (?) so you should be able to find a replacement and pop it back on.

Audio mute button looks like the plunger is broken off to me. May be able to just replace the plunger.

Also, if you can't get sound of it, remove those shorting plugs from the aux inputs. I have seen this cause issues on some gear.

Thanks for the support guys. I will hopefully get into this project next weeks and will share the results as they occur.

Nice grab. I used to replace plunger caps all the time on Marantzii and others. As long as some of the shank is present a replacement will stay glued.

Great save. Good luck with the 7070 . Nice power. Looked at the manual. Plenty of information there. Parts layout for each board, nice.

Well I finally made some room on the table to fire this big boy up. As expected a good cleaning is doming soon. Left channel worked better than th right but both are getting a bath. Looks like Half the lights work, will order more when I see what kind they are. Gauges all seem to work so that was a bonus. Will hopefully get to breaking her down this week for the cleaning.

I have found many of vintage 70's receivers at the dump sites. But sadly they close them all around me.

Question, the fuse bulbs I pulled out say Stanley 7V 0.3A but when I look on parts express I only find 6 or 8 volt. Can anyone confirm that? I had 4 white LED fuse bulbs I used in a Pioneer but they were a tad longer that the Stanley’s I pulled out of the 7070 so they did not for in the housing correctly...any thoughts?

Also...who thought all the straws on contact cleaner should be short?! Even stripped down I still can not reach all the pots with a standard straw. I needed to get creative and found one thing duct tape did not concur. I tried taping two straws together so I could get those few hard to reach places without taking every little thing apart. Only worked a few times ten I had to re-tape it again. Has anyone else tried this and could a better way to make a longer straw for contact cleaner and lube?

Done. Hooked her up and fired her up. Sounds freaking sweet, listening to Billy Joel and Luke Bryon first. From dump to desk in a month. Now to play her a while and see if she stays or goes. I have some how accumulated 9 receives in just over a year. May need to get that number down to 4. Lol. Loving it! (I know 9 is nothing to a lot of readers but in my little world it’s a ton of fun)

What’s next?

Excellent save and nice clean up job!
For straws I ended up saving them from cans of Brake Cleaner as they are nice and long. I have a few that I've heated and shaped into different positions to fit into hard to reach places.

Sweet! Congrats. I've picked up a couple of free receivers recently but nothing that cool!
