How hard would it be for me to shorten the cable on the AKG K44?

Is it pretty straight forward i.e. cutting and stripping the wire and and then soldering on a 3.5 mm jack? Are there any potential problems that I am not aware of?

that should work... looks a bit like a PIA to solder however.. haven't honestly tried that particular style... one thing you'll probably find is the stock cable the individual wires inside most likely with have an acrylic coating .. you need to clear that off to get the wires to tin properly.. otherwise it isn't super hard.

Good job! Was it an easy mod?

Yes but as said by atarione the wire was coated and is a bit of a pig to solder.
I found scraping the coating off with a stanly knife blade was the easiest way to remove it.
