SMAC turns Ten!

I just noticed that Jeff has not posted anything about SMAC's tenth anniversary so I thought I would throw few words together. BTW I am a lowly introverted technologist, not a writer, so please forgive my bumbling wordsmith in advance.

Jeff started SMAC with a meet at his house in September of 2005. He once told me that he had no idea what kind of folks would show or what would actually happen, but he decided to take a chance, a big chance. We SMAC Boi's are so very fortunate that he took that chance.

I was not there in the beginning. I missed the early meets at Squidwards & I actually have no idea who Strawman is. I discovered SMAC via Jeff's post in Audiogon, sent him a note and was accepted into his group. The first meet I attended I was so very surprised meeting so many friendly folks that were so into music and audio. Before that meet I had thought I was pretty much the odd man out, as caring about music and sound was not very important in the lives of the friends I had at the time. I remember telling Jeff how strange it now felt for me to drive past other homes and realize that there were nice stereos and music nuts in those homes.

Some of the guys I met at that first meet have become my closest friends, attending concerts and hanging out in front of each others stereos since.

SMAC led to AudioKarma, which led to AK Fests, which led to concerts together at the Ark, which led to meeting at the Detroit Jazz Festivals, which led to Mini Meats, Lard in theYard, and to many of my FaceBook Friends.

Some of my fondest memories of SMAC center around the local AK festivals. The SMAC rooms at AKFs were always such a fun "Stone Soup" thing, trying to make the best of whatever was dragged over and plugged in. When we were not trying to decide what sounded best in the systems we were trying to impress each other with our vast musical knowledge. God, I miss those festivals!

Jesus, ten years! That is 120 meets, every month, sun, rain or heavy snow, one a month for ten years, without fail!

Anyway the tenth anniversary meet is at my house, in the first of Canton's subdivisions, or as we call it the holler, the country getto of Canton. The house ain't much to look at and the deck is rotten but I plan on sprucing it up next year, when I retire!

Sure would be nice to get some of the 'old SMAC guys' over to relive old times and maybe pose for a few pictures of you holding your home made amps.

I should have a system in the basement we can swap stuff in and out of pretty easily. Hopefully the day will sunny and I can set up something outside too.

Thanks to Jeff for keeping this together for ten long years.

Here is to another ten!:beerchug:

Thank you all my SMAC brothers!

Nice write up Olson. I wish I could be there but I am tied up in DC and won't be there in person but I'll sure be there in spirit! I hope to make lard in the yard.

Yep I remember the early days fondly, actually wanted to start a local "parts swap" group,
Till Jeff did the bigger and better Smac group, great work Jeff did and continues to do still!

I'll tilt my shot to Jeff! :music:

Well said! "SMAC Brothers." That should be the theme for the next t-shirt. I can't believe how quickly these years have gone by and all the great times and music I've enjoyed. Hey Rob, remember Vetiver?

Thanks Jeff for all you have done and I'll see you guys on Saturday!

Love the commemorative T Shirt. I remember when my belly looked that flat, ninth grade, braces and football, about 1970!

I want to thank all you good folks for showing up today and for making SMACs tenth such a smooth go round.

Only issue is there there are still a couple hundred vinyls left in the basement that Dan did not get. WTF? :scratch2:

I had a great time with my brothers!

Thank you, good sir, for hosting us all today. It was a nice gathering and great to catch up with some old friends again.

Also thanks to Jim for his leadership with the food.

Thanks to Dave,(& Jim)for a very cool tenth anniversary meet.Food, friends, music,& beer. What more do you need,well....

Great Time!

Olson, thanks for hosting this event for the ages. What stories we'll all have for the grand kids! Thanks also goes out to that generous group of contributors who made the food possible. It's all true, armies and audio clubs march on their stomachs. Here's to another great 10 years. Bravo Jeff.
