Tannoy owners thread

I have the brand new budget Eclipse 2, they are stellar, its really unbelievable that they are $249 a pair, they have a incredible review in Hi Fi Choice, infact so do the Eclipse 1 & 3 and the Mercury series. This is my 2nd Tannoy i owned a pair of Mercury 2x back in 2002, i might be on my way to the Revolution xt8f or Definition 10ti in the future, but right now im in Awe of the Eclipse 2, they are trully a hiend budget gem!

I picked up a pair of Cheviots recently and they sound pretty awesome. still trying them with different gear and trying to figure what they sound best with so far they seem to be great with everything tubes and SS. they sound as good as my fortes to me and i might even like them a little better, they have a real rich sound.

There are some beautiful pieces here.

I became fan of Tannoy after hearing some of them, they're just marvelous. The prestige serie of them is very refined but so expensive. The problem is that others series like the planet one don't get much liking. They just were a serie way less costly than some arounds, despite still being expensive a bit.

Thanks :p not as good as the big expensive gear of some people around, but I do love it, and u can find them pretty cheap nowadays.

The 80's serie of Tannoy seems to have been sent into the forgetting bin of time despite being good (and an attempt to make speakers "easier" - compare to price of prestige line for instance - to purchase.

The DC serie of the 90's thought seemed to be a bit more appreciated, have a bit more fan, but not so many. Does anyone know if new Tannoy are made as the elder one, I mean good quality build or into the modern standards of looking to do best profits for investors?

Sadly theyve moved production to China except for the Prestige series.....inevitable i suppose.Going for crazy prices, especially Dual-Concentrics....

I know their support center is extremly good, but it's sad for production, I knew they were into hungary for a while.

They were purchased by a holding company so yes, I guess u're right, what's sad is that it's a lot of technology and knowledges we got and we keep increasing but with poor ways of crafting and materials that waste the new technologies. I am so curious of when will be rid off this poor craftmanship. The technological gap with the improvements will make vintage sound dull. :p

Well, so far I gathered, now any quality speakers really starts at 1 000 euros.

heh, looks like the Brit Audio forum is kind of a no mans land. Ok, I know Tannoy aren't well know in the US but they are know here in Canada but still not popular like B&W, Monitor Audio, and a few others. Pity.

Hey
As promised. I picked these up last yr. They needed re foamed and the weak ass terminals had to be replaced. I also lifted them about 4 inchs. They sold me on the whole dual concentric thing. Please note the Great plains 604s in back. No statement on my preferences just the rotation.
Eric

Can anyone help me identify these speakers by serial number? Are they Red, Orange, Gold
Any help would be much appreciated.

I'm picking up a pretty strong Red vibe from these, but agree opening them is the surest way to find out.

Good luck

Nothinjg wrong about the Reds rusomon,i have a pair of Little Red Monitors and i love them, especially with valves and they even perform brilliantly with some of my Class D amps[very low output].Look forward to hearing what yours actually are,Red,or Gold.Either way your a winner.

If anyone knows, what diameter floor spikes would I need for my 611's? No manual and spikes didn't come with them. Moving to a place with wooden floors so want spikes until I can find or have built some stands.
