Tannoy westminster royals build

So big night tonight veneered the sides in the front and cut out the peices for my curvs was hard to work out the angle but got there and happy my side joins worked out was a bit worried, the biggest and hardest part of this build is definitely the veneering i must say i wish i could have bought the timber veneered already like others do but because i had to glue all my sheets together id have to send it to someone after. But at least im learning a few new skills.

Another big day and night measured the angles on the front and the plan was to use 3x sheets of 3mm which all up with veneer is 10mm so i came in 10mm from the top and in at the bottom then went to staple the first sheet well 3mm

Doesnt bend like i thought. So tried to screw it down but it just kept splitting the timber so i gave up and had to make new peices then after procrastinating for an hour i came up with the idea of cutting it into heaps of strips and then i can make each peice fit properly yes probably the hardest way i could of done it but it is the most important part of these speakers

So has to be perfect. I need to line up 4 sides of veneer spot on so once screwed in i filled the lines and cracks.

Good work. You might want to try "kerf bending" the others to save time. Just simply repeatedly kerf the concave face of the panel to be bent. Much like cutting the strips without going all the way through. Cut the kerfs to leave 1/3 of the thickness and space them at about 10mm. For consistent spacing of the kerfs use a table saw sled and an indexing pin. If the face curve isn't as fair as you'd like, you can go back to the sled and cut the kerfs a bit deeper.

yes i have seen the water bending too but not keen to do it on craftwood just in case it swelled or stuffed up and dripped on the front veneer was looking at bending ply but after trying the 3mm it wasnt going to work that good because of the top edge so decided to just do ribs then i could sand each one and make it right.

I procrastinated a bit to work out the next steps and how to do the veneer without gaps

These are absolutely remarkable! I cannot imagine having the combination of patience, skill and balls it takes to even consider taking on this build.

My hat is off to you.

Thanks marantzfan !!

Fitted the crossovers in tonight to see if they were right test fit there looking pretty good the black surroundings im going to make again they are too big and not right but otherwise getting closer

Amazing work sir!

May I ask how you did the veneering, what glue and how you pressed it in place?

Thanks all for your kind words gives me motivation as its a big task so good to have morel support lol
I used contact adhesive very good stuff and i had to cut the veneer 5mm over and put it in and out about 20 times to get it right sanding little bits at a time then once fitting glue and screwed from behind to pull it in tight that was the only way i thought to do it dont really have any help or someone to ask just doing it all the best i can.
