The Recorded LIVE Playlist

Continuing to ply my way through The Ring Cycle (Der Ring des Nibelungen)...

Die Walküre
(Wagner, 1870)

This recording:

Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra

Direction: von Karajan
Principals: Vickers, Janowitz, Stewart, Crespin, Talvela, Veasey

(Deutsche Grammophon, 1966)

Continuing my quest to a listening of Der Ring des Nibelungen in its entirety, next up:

Siegfried
(Wagner, 1876)

This recording:

Bayreuth Festival Orchestra & Chorus

Direction: Horst Stein
Principals: Cox, Roberts, Zednick, McIntyre, Feldhoff

(Deutsche Grammaphon, 1974)

*In many respects the most "difficult" listen in The Cycle, as it is not so (musically) dramatic as the material in parts one & two, rather, it is a musical "sketch" that sets the stage for the very dramatic conclusion, i.e., part four.

The fourth part, and finale, of Der Ring des Nibelungen, thus completing my project of listening to the entire Ring Cycle in a week's time.

Götterdämmerung
(Wagner, 1876)

This recording:

Bayreuth Festival Orchestra & Chorus

Direction: Karl Bohm
Principals: Windgassen, Nilsson, Greindl, Stewart, Janowitz, Ludwig

(Philips, 1967)
