There's a record shop near me that sells its used CDs at three for the price of two. It's a nice deal. Today, I snagged three double-disc Sony Japanese pressings from the mid-90s (including the one below). The other two, Miles In Concert and Miles at Fillmore are from the same period. Some wild stuff.
Weather Report Live In Tokyo

Released (CBS/Sony Japan LPx2) 1972

Eric Grávátt (drums)
Dom Um Romão (percussion)
I can honestly say I've never been into Kenny G. Not even remotely. I absolutely admit to having a love affair with many types of "Smooth Jazz" in the early 90s. I bounced off of David Sanborn's "Hideaway" album in the 80s and took a swan dive into Smooth Jazz in the early 90s but that only lasted a few years - then I made a 180 back to classic Jazz. Although Sanborn's "Hideaway" was more of a "Hybrid" album to my ears than a plunge into full-blown Smooth Jazz.
When a remote friend says something like, "Ah, you're into Jazz. Do you like Kenny G?"
I just smile and say, "He doesn't play the kind of Jazz I listen to."
And I leave it at that.
Just played this again tonight. I now know what I did not know last time I played it, is that he has been doing bands a long long time. I was surprised he has so much out there in early 1950's maybe even late 1940's. Amazing..
