Today's Singer-Songwriter/Folk/Folk Rock Playlist

Permanent Waves

Digital Man
So I've been looking for a place to post albums in this genre when I listen to them, so why not make a thread for this purpose? :D

My main focus will be on the "traditional" acoustic based singer-songwriter/folk rock from the 60's and 70's, but artists from any decade are welcome, just as long as there is general minimal instrumentation (whether acoustic guitar and/or piano or electronic etc. doesn't matter much, at least for the singer/songwriter classification) used in the material or the focus is on the songwriting and vocals more than the instrumentation. IOW: I want to have a thread that combines both "classic" singer-songwriter and folk rock along with more modern/contemporary material and artists that are also classified as singer-songwriter but don't necessarily use acoustic based instrumentation (they don't fit into the folk rock category iow, but do fit into the singer-songwriter category).

I'm going to start off with a bunch of Peter, Paul, and Mary albums I recently got on cd (and then ripped to FLAC). They were all remixed by Peter Yarrow for the cd releases in the late 80's afaik and all sound really good. :music:

I've got a new one; we saw them open for the Wailin' Jennys in Lebanon, NH Saturday night. They're called Joy Kills Sorrow and they're good.

Of course, the Wailin' Jennys - goes without saying! I picked up Ruth Moody's new solo album The Garden, which she kindly autographed for me. It is quite good as well, and sounds terrific.

Looks like some good stuff mhardy.

I'm going to switch gears from the older S/S to something brand new (classified as "alternative S/S and indie rock/pop" so good enough).

She & Him - Volume 2

And yes I'm a Zooey fan. :smlove: :D

My first listen only (and I haven't heard the first one), but I liked it.

You have to like Zooey's voice, which can be characterized as dry (which I like). The songs are mostly catchy, M. Ward is a good musician (I really need to get some of his solo stuff). Check out some of their live stuff on Youtube.

The album's sound is kind of bright/dry, but doesn't seem to be compressed so that's good. The album's kind of like listening to a breeze of fresh air if that makes any sense, it's light, airy, and open.
