I dont own any Kenwood tuners, can you guys rank the best #15, the list I have is from FMtuner info

1-L-02T
2-KT-5020, KT-990D
3- L-1000T
4-KT-917
5-KT-1100
6-KT-3300D
7- L-07TII
8-KT-8300
9-KT-7300
10- L-01T

Do you guys agree with the list ? What tuner am I missing on that list ?

I would rate the L-01T much higher, and maybe lower the 990D, L-01T, should displace the 917 or 1000T.

I had the KT 5020 and KT 6040 at the same time. They both did well but I think remembering suspecting the 6040 of having a slightly deteriorating display brightness. Such is something to be aware of, when buying a tuner for long term use.
(I sold them since having three more "tinkerable" good vintage-look other brands tuners).

I my 600T

A modified, souped up KT-7500 is pretty darned good. Maybe/maybe not in the top 10, but it would place respectably.
I mention it because they are easy to find in stock form for not much money.

600T definitely on the list, maybe between the L-O7T and the KT-917.

Anyone heard of the Kenwood Basic T-1 and T-2 from the Basic Series? How would they compare to the other Kenwood?

I have the basic-T2, but I need time to review it, I let you know in a few days, what about the Kenwood KT-9X any opinions on that one ? can someone with experience on Kenwood gear update the list ?

thanks

I have a KT1000; apparently it has not many supporters, probably for its boring tuning mechanism. But the sound seems to be very good.
Any general comment about it?

I was thinking EXACTLY the same thing.

Well I just tested the Basic -2 against my Hitachi FT-5500 MK2 and the basic -2 is keeping up with the Hitachi, no major different on sound, the basic t-2 seem to be a better for dixing and getting better reception for difficult and noise stations.
Keep in mind that the Basic cost me $10 and is original, and the Hitachi cost me around $90 + $200 for the mod.
I think the Basic-2 is an excellent tuner.
I have an extra Hitachi Hitachi FT-5500 MK2 , that going to be for sale now. I dont think i need another Kenwood tuner.
If you can get a Basict-2, go ahead is an excellent tuner

600T definitely on the list, maybe between the L-O7T and the KT-917.

Talking to a young guy at work today, he had gotten a Kenwood tuner from his father, mint with box. Sold it for $140 Canadian, about $100 US. I asked him what model. He said wait a minute, I will go check. He came back and told me it was a 600T. He told me he had suspected it was not a great deal and tried to buy it back after but had no luck. No kidding, the guy probably flipped it immediately for a handsome profit!

I had a L-1000T including the remote. Built like a tank, but got so hot I swear I could fry eggs on it. Great sounding unit. I sold it to a mate I work with. He has it in his conservatory, likely to keep it heated! Incidentally, the remote for the KT-6040 can operate most of the controls if you can't find one with an original remote. The unit has virtually no controls on the front. You NEED a remote basically.

I have a KT-5020. It's a real little belter. That's a good one in good old plain English.

For those who like Kenwood's line of digital tuners; here are the best according to http://nice.kaze.com/av/synthe-tuner.html

Top tier list
All those tuners feature Direct Linear Detector, Kenwood dropped the pulse count detector.

1983 KT-770, I have one, is a really good tuner, 5 gangs ( no if band ) it was the fist model with Direct Linear Detector ), if you can get one you never going to regret it

1984 KENWOOD KT-929 ( Hidden masterpiece )
http://nice.kaze.com/av/kt-929.html

1984 KENWOOD KT-2020
http://nice.kaze.com/av/kt-2020.html

1984 KENWOOD KT-3030
http://nice.kaze.com/av/kt-3030.html

1986 KENWOOD Kt-3300d, this was the more expensive digital tuner that Kenwood released in the 80s, I have one that RadioXtuner repaired and moded, is my best tuner so far, it is Kaze main tuner for radio, if you get the chance to get one, don't hesitated

1986 KENWOOD KT-1100D

1986 KENWOOD KT-990d

1989 KENWOOD KT-7020
http://nice.kaze.com/av/kt-7020.html

According to Kaze the Kt-5020 is a good tuner but is not a top tier.

The L-1000T isn't on that list, but that's because it was export-only and wasn't available in Japan.

I also have a KT-1100SD, which is equivalent to the KT-3030 on that list. It was modified with some narrower filters for DXing but it probably upset the alignment when the mod was done. I'm sure it could be improved further.

Is fun to play with the quieting control? never seen anything like that in a tuner

KT815 is pretty good. I got one with the purchase of other equipment, it has better reception than a serviced MR77, but doesnt sound as nice.
