That right there is a "porn star penis" tree. Just be careful if you own a 1977 Corvette. They will drive off in it.

Seriously though... looks like either an eggplant or a large variety of cucumber. Best way to find out is to ask! Might be delicious as most Thai food is! The leaves are very similar to melon or pumpkin leaves so I'm guessing more on the side of eggplant or some other kind of gourd.

might be them courgette things as above .. they grow on the ground here . i call them baby marrows .

Went over and talked to the people, barring small language difficulty they called it oppa if i heard right.RichPA i believe your correct. She said its sorta like zucchini. Boil, stir fry with shrimp and soy sauce etc etc.Even got a big chunk to try.

Snake Gourd. I absolutely LOVE them. My wife peels them, stir-fry with good hamburger, minced onion, lots of garlic. serve over white rice. You need to find smaller for a more tender feel. Really popular with Asian's. I need to find a few for supper, glad you posted.

I bet those would taste good with rabbit.

Smaller ones have better mouthfeel but same flavor? Maybe cooking the larger ones a little longer?

The long, mature gourd has went to seed/less flavor. Still edible? Maybe, but the smaller young are the best.

Gotcha. Kind of like a Florida lobster. Big ones are fun to look at but the sweetness is gone. I kinda felt the same about a huge Maine lobster I ate once. After it arrived at the table and made the big show, the flavor was dissapointing. I felt even worse when I found out that a huge lobster is not years old, but decades old. I felt like a chopped down a redwood to make matches.

As i said its an opa squash. Most likely has other names also.I hada rib steak yesterday and boiled some of the opa and id have to say it was ok.Im going to try in stirfry with shrimp and maybe oyster sauce?Wonder if it would make a nice bread like zucchini?Funny i remember a fellow worker that saw me eating a zucchini (stuffed) who commented on how he hated zuc with a passion as he shared a piece of my bread(sliced loaf) all buttered up.He commented on how great the bread was and asked for the recipe.I told him first you need a nice zucchini, lol.

LOL!! That's a great story! I'm going to head over to the local Asian market and see if they carry opa. I'm curious to try it too!

I kind of agree with your friend. I don't hate it but to me zucchini is pretty bland and tasteless but sure makes for awesome bread.
