Would my yamaha bd player make a decent transport?

Would my few year old yamaha bd-s677 bluray player make a fairly good transport by adding a good outboard dac for CD playback.
Or would it be better to purchase a decent modern cdp now, then add a dac at a later date as funds are available.

Funds are tight now as I just purchase an amp, but the Cambridge transport and Schiits dac seems like a good entry hi-fi scenario. I just cant spend that kind of money for a while.

I'd say go with the Yamaha as a transport. As long as it is still functioning correctly, and can support the DAC you want to use, then you would probably be OK using it that way. My $.02.

Thanks Mark. I'll look for a dac for Yamaha. I have a small budget now so I'm considering SMSL Sankrit 6 or Topping D30. Not sure if it's an improvement though.
