So I picked up this beauty on ebay,

https://www.ebay.com/itm/Yamaha-YP-701-Stereo-Turntable-Record-Player-Original-Box/323380793958?ssPageName=STRK:MEBIDX:IT&_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l2649

Price was a little high but I could not find anyone who had anything bad to say about this tt.

I came home today and found it on the porch. It was double boxed but when I picked it up I could hear clunking. When I opened it the platter was put back on the tt instead of seperate and away from everything in the top of the box. It had worked itself loose and bent the tone arm support back by all of the adjustment weights and the small weight on the thin line was wrapped and tangled around it self. I managed to very lightly bend the tone arm support straight and untangle the weight line but I am not sure if everything is ok because I have to wait until the new belt comes in next week to test it.

I will say this, the inside of that TT is clean as can be!

If you guys could take a look at the pics and let me know if everything looks normal I would appriciate it.

I also have a Grado Prestige Black2 on the way as well all though the cartridge is an AT I have no idea what model?

thanks for any advice you have!

Jeff

Hi there-
Too bad the tt was improperly packed. If I understand how you explained the damage, I would be concerned about the headshell being level. If it's bent out of shape even a little bit, your cart may not track correctly.
The cart is a decent vintage one. I believe its an elliptical and might be upgraded to a shibata or fine line.
Good luck with the table. I hope it works out.

arm lifting mechanism. If that is all that is affected, might be okay. You'll want to make sure all works well once you install a new belt (or using the old one now). I'd contact the seller if you haven't already and let them know you want time to test...

Yes, you should definitely contact the seller. Even better if you took pictures before fixing anything.

The lifter still looks bent but it might be fine. It does have to have the platform parallel to the platter though or you might have issues with the tonearm touching it. Hopefully the platter itself or the spindle didn't get bent. Put the platter on, even without a belt, and spin it. If it isn't flat or wobbles you have problems.
