Yamaha YP-701 vs. Empire 598?

I've narrowed my choices on a hunt for two turntables, the Yamaha YP-700's and the Empire 598's.

I will be playing all sizes but am really looking for a solid machine that can run my old shellacs. I believe both are belt driven with a suspended subchassis.

These two models I heard compete with Thorens possibly outright beating them in fidelity, anyone own both in your life time?

"old shellac" means 78 RPM records, correct?

Oh that's right the 701 only has two speeds, I've heard of three speed 598's maybe rare.

In that territory there are many more Thorens models that are made for those types of records, I wanted to start archiving my collection.
