The only thing different I did was to scrap the cable that came with the antenna and spent a little extra money on a single run of Carrol RG-6 Quad Shield coax.
i have been reading everything i can about mcintosh tuners (specs) as i am trying to decide which model to buy. i enjoy dx ing and i listen to a lot of fm radio. i live outside the vancouver , b.c. area and the stations i like to listen to are from seattle & tacoma, wa. 200 miles away. blues, jazz, and 60's rock. i have narrowed it down to the mr-78, mr-80 or the mr-85.

Well, I'll give you this, you have chosen the three best tuners in the McIntosh lineup of tuners. The MR78 gets a ton on good to excellent feedback from owners and techs, as well as the MR80. I chose to use the MR85 as my tuner. It performs very well, was designed to be a broadcast reference tuner for both AM and FM, and lives up to its claims.
No matter which tuner you choose, remember to use a good outdoor antenna for the best performance. The little folded dipole antennas are really just a starter antenna, and are only adequate for local broadcast stations. A quality antenna is as important and the tuner used.

My Modaferri modded/DeWick checked MR78 is the DX champ in my house. (Along with the new little Sony XDR-F1HD).
My MR85 sounds wonderful but it can't grab the tiny distant stations up against big local stations on the dial.
And of course a big antenna like mine is a must.

The MR-78 is quite the prodigy. The unit in the upstairs office in The Old Man's house in Phoenix didn't have an antenna, so I gimmicked one up by straightening two coathangers, scraping the enamel off one end of each, stuffing the ends in the antenna spring terminals, and bending 'em into a rough dipole shape. Most days I could pick up stations in Tucson. All right, being several hundred feet up the side of a mountain facing south helped, but still.. 
Well, the McIntosh dealer visit this morning was fun. Got to hear the MC1.2Kw amps with the XRT1K speakers. Thought I was going to get out of there without leaving any money behind, and I was doing good until I spotted the MR85 tuner trade in. The original owner only kept it 30 days, then decided to upgrade to a MX136 with the TM-1 tuner module built in. The MR85 was returned as a trade, but for all pratical purposes, is still brand new. I picked it up for a shade over half retail, and smiled all the way home. Now I have two MR85 tuners, one in the main system upstairs, and one in the studio system. This pleases me. I've included a couple photos of the studio system gear. I guess one can never have too many tuners.

Well, believe it or not, I just finished emailing a friend who just completed building a lovely home on a river up in south Georgia, and offered him the entire system, plus a pair of Definitive Technologies BP2000 Super Tower speakers. If he decides he wants the system, it will all be gone next week. Fortunately for me, the system upstairs puts goose bumps on me every time I hear it, so if this system ends up in Georgia it won't be the end of the world. Naturally, it won't break my heart if he doesn't want the system, but he's a good friend, and I'd love to see him with a nice McIntosh system in his living room.

I can't imagine anyone not being happy with that (not so) "little" system!

So does that mean you will be looking to purchase more Mac to replace this system?
cisco........These photos of my studio downstairs (2 posts because of the number of photos) should indicate that I have no shortage of other gear to occupy my attention. This is the Control Room (green room).
Hunting for new Mac gear is fun, though. One never knows.
