How's this for an A/D/S 1230 deal?

I visited a cranky old gentelman today that was headed for his 4th divorce in a week. Picked up this pair of A/D/S 1230s and four extra woofers for the grand sum of $123. Used the vacuum cleaner to make one dust cap convex instead of concave.

Wiped them off and hooked them up to my Pioneer SA-9100 integrated amp. They sound very nice....Annie Lennox is wailing right now.

The grills will look OK, but need to be recovered to make the condition of the cabinets.

Did I do OK on this deal?

Forgot to mention, here's what I got for spare woofers.

Two with small dust caps are ADS 206 0317 - marked 8 ohm on back -- both measure 4.8 ohm though.

Two with large dust caps are ADS 206 0355 - no ohm marking -- both measure 3.8 ohm, dated June and September 1987

I've been told the original woofers in these were model # 206-0332. Plan to pull the ones that are in there and check the model numbers later. The seller said the installed woofer are original, but had been sent back to ADS or an ADS repair shop for new dust caps because when he bought them from fleabay they were pushed in.

you can tell us the truth

what king of gun did you have, jk. that be major score!:thmbsp:

I've been sitting here listenign to Donald Fagen - The Nightfly.....these speakers sound amazing. The imaging/soundstage is incredible. :boink:

I have no idea if all four installed woofers are original, but it's hard to imagine them sounding much better.

No gun, just a motivated seller. He injured his back and couldn't even move the speakers out of the basement. Was planning to just leave them there when he departed in a week.

I would say you got a pretty sweet deal. What speakers were you using before and where do these speakers stck up to ones's you've had before?

The 206-0355 woofers are for the L570/II, L690, & L780/II.

The 306-0317 woofers are for the L810/I but will work in the L1230.

.....and that is a righteous price!

Does any one know how much these speakers sold for new and what years they were manufactured?

You kicked the crap out of my deal! Please, please, don't tell my wife! Congratulations!

You got a steal!

You'll enjoy those speakers. The more you listen, the more you appreciate. I've got the 1530's, bought them new in 1981 and wouldn't trade em for anything. I am just now gettin around to replacing the grille cloth (samples on the way).

Enjoy your new sounds!

Kevin

The grill clothes on these 1230s had gotten the cat treatment some time in the past. Recovered them today. Here's a picture.

Also ran AutoEQ on them using the Behringer DEQ2496. Here's the GEQ curve. You can see the changes it made were pretty small, which says this speaker has a pretty flat response out of the box.
