Do these have Econowave Potential?

(Please excuse the flurry of postings tonight, I have been lurking for a while.)
I recently became the owner of 3 pairs of these JBL 4401s, and out of curiosity I was wondering if they have E-Wave or any other potential as an interesting but nondestructive project.

care to explain how one comes across 3 pair of the same speaks.....just curious....and a little nosey....:scratch2:

Those're 6.5" woofers, so even using the 6" square PT waveguide, it's not going to happen "nondestructive."

Another LHF and I built mini-4430s using 115H(-1) and 116(H) woofers. I believe I'd be looking here for a different cabinet design E'Wave:

I underestimated the size of the woofer. I was guessing 8". Perhaps the MCM round waveguide might squeeze into place?

:D Just suggesting...

You could run all the woofer wires out of the ports to dedicated ewave crossovers, with the ewave and selenium in a box between.

You'd have the first Mini K2. :smoke:

Hey Zilch ...how about ...

Block off the tweeter holes, flip the cabs upside down (woofers up) and put the PT above the woofer outside of the box ?

Or is the woofer just too small ?

Woofer and tuning are fine; don't even have to remove the tweeter to try that out, just bring the woofer leads out the port.... :yes:

Sorry, what I meant was to use the existing woofer, remove the tweeter and block it off to keep proper tuning. Flip the cabinet upside down and put the PT waveguide on top of the cabinet (Closest to the woofer, outside the box)

With over 40 AKers having built them, now, I say there's damn few.

Where there's a will, there's a way.

Where there's not, well, there's just not, is all.... :dunno:
 
With just a little persuasion, you could get 035Tis in there, and re-work the crossovers, and have something close to a front-ported L20T3.

I put 033s into my 4401s, they sound good but are pretty rare and not quite as good as the 035Ti and other Ti tweets.

One of my dad's friends that knows I'm into stereo stuff was renovating a yacht club, and saved the 4401s for me. I paid $50 for all six.

Someone mentioned closing off the tweeter and putting the horn on top of the cabinet. Those were the lines I was thinking along. I don't want to irreversibly change any of the cabinets, but I also have a pair of 4612oks and 4311bs that I could play around with.
