Local CL had a really nice pair of JBL L80T speakers. I was lucky enough to get these. They are original owner and in very good cosmetic shape. Of course, the foam needs to be replaced as usual. No scratches or obvious dings to the cabs and the grilles are in perfect shape. I now have two pairs of JBLs. This pair and the 4425 monitors. I can't wait for a side-by-side. Free too, only in America :D

He stated in his ad "He didn't want to throw them away." I feel very lucky because he told me he had many responses. I usually never beat the other folks to the goodies. Lucky today, though.:yes:

This is the second time I've been lucky with CL speakers. I got a great pair of 4425 studio monitors that only needed foam for the woofers. They too, were one owner and he gave them to me for $25. I use those today. :music:
 
They're out there, you just gotta keep your eyes open & drive a big truck.

Nice score, can't wait to hear your opinions once they're re-foamed.

Really nice collection you have! Yeah, I got to get the foam and they need some cleanup..dust and spider webs. I think some Old English Lemon Oil might be all the cabs need. He took care of them.
 
Ha! I let you have those :P I just spent all weekend emptying the garage of speakers and knew my wife would kill me if I picked those up.

Thanks :thmbsp: Mine wasn't very happy either. Of course, sometimes you just have to take the a$$ eating. I couldn't let these get away. Hmm..your better half seemed okay with every room and the garage full of your stereo gear last time I was there :D I should be so lucky.
 
I paid $50 for my pair and did the Gordon W mods posted somewhere on this forum (1.5" port tube extension and about 4" extra batting in the top of the cabinets). Got my surrounds from Rick Cobb and they work great. Watco Danish oil worked wonders. I posted before-and-after photos of them here somewhere:

Those are nice looking speakers, but I am puzzled by one thing. Is it just the light or are the speakers different colors. Is this before and after the Danish oil?

You got it. The one on the right is after re-surrounding the woofer, removing all drivers, light palm-sanding, and three coats of Watco. The one on the left is in the condition I got them. I suspect I was the first to ever apply oil to this pair!

I just happen to have a can of Watco :scratch2: I think I'll just wipe them with Lemon Oil first, though. I'll have to look up the Gordon mods. I do get my surrounds from Rick, too. He seems to always get it right. Can't wait.

The extra resistor in the HF section of the network you may also find mention of is to bring it in-line with L80T3 specs.

It was Gordon's championing of the L80T over many years that got my interest up when I saw my pair offered on CL. While I find them to be a fine speaker, I can't say I prefer them to my L112s I've had since new. But then a lot of differing opinions on JBLs can boil down to placement issues, especially when you try to use a system designed as a "bookshelf" on the floor. :nono:

I used normal yellow fiberglass home insulation from some leftover scraps. Seems to match exactly what JBL used in the cabinet. In keeping with your acquisition, my batting was free and came with no shipping cost, either.
