I am wondering how good a horn driver your mid has on it. I would consider keeping the L-Pads in the design as those horns can be hot and somewhat directional in nature. If nothing else maybe a simple -1 or -2 or so db down switch. Some music will demand some taming if nothing else!
I personally like the old Super 7 design they had. The closet I got was the 6 design. I think I still have a couple of the 16 ohm Speakerlab drivers somewhere if they can help you to stay original.

It could have been presentable with little work, but I decided that it was ugly to begin with, and new veneer is cheap enough.

They are 8 ohm speakerlab drivers with a heat-sink on the magnet, I cannot remember the model number...
So I got the replacement W1208R and it has a ferrite magnet but knowing Speakerlab, if they put the same model number on a driver it will have the same parameters.
If it perturbs you enough, AK member Tarior has offered to recone both woofers for far less than $200, and I'll buy the woofer from David for a future project.

Yes it was, but I'm glad I did it this way. I couldn't sleep at night knowing I put veneer on top of veneer...
Also, a shout out to my buddy Glenn, who came by about halfway through and did the other entire speaker!

Hey, I was thinking, instead of the solid wood risers that are on there now, why not some nice wooden feet? They could use some raising up to get the tweeters closer to ear level if you were sitting on a couch or standing up (maybe have the front feet be a little taller, to angle the whole speaker back?)

We'll think about the solid wood risers, I got to see what they look like first now so. But anyway it looks like its going great.
How are we going to get the tweeter out now with out hammering it out?
I'll help you restore the other JBLs you have by sanding and peeling veneer like you did for these speakers.

They are fine, but they probably will clash with the new veneer (when you pick it out, that is)
The tweeter is screwed and glued it, but not much glue, if I unscrew it I can probably wiggle it out.
The other JBLs don't need cabinet work, I don't want you to pay me for the work I'm doing.
Well I want to at least pay back what for what you did on the veneer today. Help you finish up the RSIIIs?

Got it covered, I just picked up some flat blue spray paint for the baffles, I just need to do the magnet thing, fill the holes in the MDF, and they are good to go with some paint!
