Best Looking Receiver of all Time

Could you guide me in the mods you made, please.
If I could find any fault with the Sta-2080 is that the rather drab black.
Otherwise, its one of the airiest & crystal definitive units I've had the pleasure of owning. I don't believe I'd ever part with it.

Actually the dark face shows up really nice with the original white lights on.

And representing the G-Series, the G-6000 is positively gorgeous with a unique indirect lighting from a single bulb on the left of the dial. Illuminating flourescent markings. The bright dial face is not backlit at all.

Back to the op topic, my vote still goes towards the Pioneer Fluoroscan SX-3800:grnbounce

Yes, I don't have a pic of my SX-3900 right now, but the silver and flouroscan are definitely in contention.

I also have an STA 2080 and I recently modded it with red LEDs I'll get pictures up sometime in the next few days. Looks really excellent.

Do you have any DIY threads on how you installed?

A lot of times tips are given but sure helps to see how it's done.

I assume they were preordered with appropriate resistors?

I'll have a thread on it later. I ordered a lamp kit from whsh93a. The receiver uses four 159 wedge lamps, and two fuse style lamps on either side of the dial. The two side lamps had to be specially made due to space constraints. The rear lamps were relatively easy to replace, I had to solder them in place, kind of hard to do but it was very straightforward.

 And their DB and Euro brothren too:

I Couldn't Agree more.

Though the QRX-5500 and the 5500A variation are really attractive beasts, big though I like them that way. :D

Lots of those previously posted (like the marantz) has too much junk on it, and those blue lights make it look like a Christmas-tree to me :P

Wow!!! That is beautiful!!

Man, you guys have some great taste...alot of great looking units on here. The black cover receivers are very cool, you don't see alot of them...

Since I only have two receivers (from the same line) i'm going with my soon to be done project; the pioneer sx-727. I really like this unit, well balanced nice mix of knobs and buttons, and the somewhat famous pioneer blue-light dial. For whatever reason, that blue light is really good looking to me, my sx-525 sold me on it...the great sound and tuner didn't hurt either.

Not my picture, but for now it will do...if my receiver turns out looking nice i'll take some pictures to substitute this one.

I think some of the low end pioneers like my your SX-727 have the most classic looks .... My SX-636 looks almost identical.

Mmmmmmmm Blue glow (Homer voice)

I'm partial to silverface '70s Pioneers, especially the ones with the green backlit tuner displays.

Marantz also made some gorgeous, timeless designs.

Those old Pioneers are truly beautiful. Much more, IMHO, than the later 70's series that followed.

A lot of cool ones posted. I like my JRS600 II JVC vintage system. With matching QL10 JVC table, ESS AMT-3 Rock Monitors and Panasonic CD/DVd player. In the spirit of AudioKarma this is the kind of system you can find in the used market for less than $1000 then have the joy of restoring and listening to it.

Thanks,
Ron-C

My "new" best looking receiver: the mighty B&O Beomaster 8000!

I'm not biased, or anything; I just happen to now own one! :D :thmbsp:

I've always loved the classic B&O receivers. I was lucky enough to pick up a Beomaster 1900 in perfect working order. The 1900, to me, was the best looking receiver ever.

But just my opinion. I still think my old Kenwood 6004 integrated looked cool too. But then my Kyocera 651 still looks modern today.
