That baffle board is an advanced lesson in applied analytical geometry. Have you put the cabinet on a scale yet?

Stock cabinets are over 90 pounds each, but these cabinets have two more sides, and a heavier mid driver than stock, I haven't put them on a scale yet, it's a PITA to move them.

We have peacefully separated for this project. He is busy working on a project of his own right now :yes:

I am glad things are good. It has been really fun watching you in this restoration.


I am currently doing a JBL L250 to 250Ti conversion with a black base/clear coat finish. I have been taking pics along the way and should be able to start a thread for it soon. I have only been working on this for oh...... 6 YEARS!!:bash:

I am back on it like stink on.......! you know the saying.:yes:

Anyways please let us know how your final assessment........ Hum maybe I should just veneer mine in money it might be cheaper!:D

Thanks, I am planning on doing a shinier varnish finish on these, the matte oil did not really float my boat after all.

The DH 220 is in that last picture, look at the very top right of the photo.
 
I just finished reading this entire thread this evening, and have a couple observations.
1) Excellent results
2) Do you have a big enough room to really let 'em rip in? When I was young, I remember someone serenading frat row with a pair of these, and they sounded pretty good.

Should I go with wool or fiber fill for damping? Both are about the same price.
 
Don't some types of wool fill promote corrosion? For sealed speakers I like good ol' fiberglass. Easy to measure for R/L balanced sets and inert. (but use mask/gloves/eye protection.)

For anything with a port, I'm concerned about the room filling with airborne lung irritants...PE's acoustistuff?

Rock wool does it, natural wool does not.

By the way, over 20k views as of today!
 
I would probably use a Dacron batting for the stuffing. I have heard that wool can sag over time. I would also never use fibreglass in a speaker. The obvious reason was mentioned by susurus above. The NOT obvious reason is those same shed fibers can work their way into the gap between the voice coil and the magnet. Think sandpaper. The only time I'd ever use it would be if the drivers were sealed, as the drivers in the SL .1's.
