Similost's Speaker Build - Watch this space for lots of laughs.

Yeah.. it was a pretty tight fit on the baffle..

Ya gotta believe me though.. these pictures don't do anything to give you an idea of how truly massive these Lambda drivers are.. Every time I pick one up I am so impressed by them... By far the beefiest 15" driver I've ever seen or lifted..

I'd like to have a pair of the TD15s hanging on the wall just to show off the back side. I have been thinking about building some cabs for the TD12. What is the sonic difference between the 12" and 15" if, lets say, they both go down to the same hz floor? I have three subs that go up fairly high so I don't need to go as low as the 15" will go.

Nice job!!!! Now get going if your this happy with one just think of what 2 of those monsters is gonna do.

LOL.. yeah.. I need to get the second done..

I took a break today though. My hands and thumbs were so sore from all the wire stripping and routing.. I can't even hardly light a smoke.. Gotta use a finger to flick the bic... I've got Arthor pretty bad in my thumbs at the wrist from too many years of wrenching..

I'll start working on the second crossover tomorrow night, but you are right. I wanna hear them both together so bad..

djnagle, I really don't know the differences between the 12" and the 15". I just knew the 12" was a little too small for my box from what I was told/read so that's why I went with the 15's....

You can look around AE's site. They do have different models of the 12 and the 15" drivers. Some do hit lower than others.. I think the TD12S is more a sub woofer..

Very cool progress and glad to see you like the sound so far.

I still haven't zeroed in on the bass driver I'm going to use, although I have JBL 2213h at my disposal. My cabs are 3.75 ft^3 (106.2 liter), so I wonder if the Lambda TD12 would make a good match. I'll give AE a call for recommendations. I still haven't been able to down-load a "box calculator" for my MAC? This is all very new to me.

that second crossover will be much easier.

I just got it finished about 15 minutes ago... You're right.. only took me about half the time.

I'll be listening to the pair of them later today, and the way things are going, I'll probably have tomorrow off too to spend the whole day listening and tweaking.

I cannot wait to hear your impressions going from mono to stereo. BTW, are you using the Quicksilvers with the Ewaves?

Very Cool! Looking Great! Can`t wait to Hear your Impressions of them together after some tweaking!! Congrats James! :thmbsp::music::music::banana:

Yes, using the quick silvers now. As soon as I get these done, I'm gonna finish up my Bogen amps.. Should take me an hour or so, and they are a little over twice the power..

Thanks Dok.. I can't wait either. Just got back home, so heading out to the garage to finish them up after a little Irish coffee to warm up with..

Drivers mounted in the second box..

GETTIN CLOSE! (break time, this is a LOT more work than I would have ever imagined.. )

I'm listening... :music:

  :guitar:

Give me a bit and a few different things to try, and I'll get back with my thoughts..

SOME BITCH!!!!!!!!

I'll tell you right now, these speakers were built to play LOUD!

INCREDIBLE!!!!!!!!!!

At lower volumes, they sound... well.. I just can't describe it... Very different than what I'm used to listening to.... very neutral.. no color. Almost like something is missing, but I know better.. it's all there, but nothing is standing out..

Imaging is a lot more than I'm used to, but you still pick the sound at the speakers too, but there is a lot more in the middle now...

At LOUD volumes... INSANE! some of the clearest sound I've heard, and image is still there... The horns do start coming a lot more forward with more volume though...

Bass is fantastic... I put on the Music Choice Rap channel, I was just shaking my head at the PUNCH in the chest, and I was rattling things I've never heard rattle in this house before..

I am hearing something that's going to take a lot of getting used to I think... DETAIL.. I'm hearing sounds in the music I never have before... the Phua's in the vocals, wheezing breathes.. snare rattles, pedal squeaks, light finger drags on the strings.. .all the stuff you normally don't notice, that in ways kind of detracts your attention from the music...

This is gonna take some real getting used to... a sound I haven't heard before..

The combination of the drivers, the boxes, the crossovers, everything... they just went together fantastically sound wise!

I need bigger amps.. these QS's can't keep up with these speakers.. they run out of steam way too fast compared to what the speakers are capable of...

Guess I need to get some done..
