I've got your M19 crossovers on it with dual L-pads on each crossover... so you're saying I need more than that?
If you can't dial them down enough, yes, but it's just two resistors to add the requisite additional attenuation. You determine the resistor values by inserting an additional adjustable L-pad at the driver, dialing it in, and measuring the resistances between terminals 1 and 2 (the parallel resistor) and 3 and 2 (the series resistor).... :yes
 
Ah.. ok.. now I understand...

I could do that, but I'm really starting to think I need a couple more tubes glowing in my living room, and with the things I can do with my 2496, I might as well just be done with it and bi-amp them.. then that way I can sit at my computer in the listening spot and tweak all I want..
 
I've decided to take a crack at using some other woofers in my L56 cabs.

These Peerless woofers (mentioned earlier in the thread) look awful nice for the price. Dare I say, fancy. :D

I looked at those earlier, too. My thought was that I don't necessarily need the 'Waves to go deep, since I have subwoofers to spare. Would like, however, to know what "ultra-flat to 2K" means in reality.
 
I'm excited now, I just placed my parts order to build myself a pair of Ewaves! :D

I'm going with the standard Pyle/220ti HF setup and I'm going to try out some Eminence Beta 12A-II for the woofers.

I'm going to build some cabinets for them styled after the Klipsch Cornwall II only with a narrower baffle since I'm shooting for around 4.75cf and the Cornwalls are over 6cf. Should be good for a 43hz F3. They are going into my 2 channel music only setup so I should be happy without a sub :music:

That's the setup I am going with. You beat me to the punch!

Only difference is I am going with a sealed cab of ~2 ft^3 with four tapped horns for the low end :smoke:

Qts is pretty high, might not give the tightest bottom end around.
 
Perhaps I should keep quiet, what I am doing is not directly related to the thread, but I have the QSC waveguides running with 18sound ND1080 drivers, actively crossed at approx 930 Hz (24 db Butterworth) on top of JBL 2226 in 4507 cabinets.(also 24db Butterworth).

Let me just say, I like these waveguides.. a lot. In my mind, stupid good.

I bought the components for the 5 part XO for the deluxe version and mount up B&C DE250-8 by the end of this weekend..

One question:
Does anyone know what the cutoff is on these QSC waveguides?

If it's low enough, I'd also like to make an adapter to bolt up JBL LE85s and try to take them lower..

I don't think it's going to replace 2" drivers with Beryllium diaphragms, but they're really, really good for a 1".

No clue with respect to cutoff, but if you review Brandon's polar measurements, you'll see it there, but also find that you're working well below where they have lost pattern control.

Their size is deceptive; a substantial part of that is mouth roundover, not the "business" portion of the waveguide itself, which is roughly equivalent to the standard eWaves.

That's part of why we've stayed in the 1.5 kHz region and 2226H will play up there; 1.2 kHz is probably as low as I would go with that combo, trading off compromises.

Have you cut the QSCs into 4507s? Was the 2x4 in the way...? :dunno:

OK, I will raise the XO freq. In the sweet spot, it was working, at least for me. TrueRTA with a Behringer ECM8000 returned a pretty good response, but I only tried "in the zone".

Have you cut the QSCs into 4507s? Was the 2x4 in the way...? :dunno:
I did not cut the waveguide in the 4507 cabinet. The 4507 is upside down with the waveguide on top..& hanging over the edge.. I am sure that wouldn't mess with any polars.. :D
 
Dan, I just received the QSC waveguides that Vaughn (Matt) let go of yesterday. I am going to be using them with my B&C DE25 drivers and 2226H or 2225 in a "4507" cab with the 5 part x-over and see how it goes. Not much to that horn when you are used to dealing with cast and wood designs is there? :D I'm looking forward to hearing the results. I agree with your assessment when comparing a good 2" to a 1" in a well thought out design. The smaller drivers can sure make a good accounting for themselves in these ewave designs though :yes:

Zilch, those cabs I was telling you about in PM turned out to be a cabinet makers version of the 4507 and not the smaller JBL Cabaret for single 15". Pretty nicely done though and the porting for 40Hz checks out. The nice thing about these is that unlike my JBL built 4507 cabs, these lack bracing. Thats going to make for easy introduction of the QSC and B&C in cab and I can work around everything add my own bracing.

I've been meaning to pull the 2235H from my 4507 boxes and have a look at that 2 x 4. I'll get it done today and post back. Its been a while since I've looked in there, seems like its right under the woofer, hopefully not in the way!

That would be pretty interesting too.. One thing you have to remember too though, is the LE14 and the 2235 are meant to be more of a sub type woofer, more so with the 2235. The xmax for it is something like what.. 17mm on the 2235? The xmax on mine is only 6mm.. and even with that small movement, I've been pretty shocked at the amount of punch I'm getting.. Because of the much lower xmax I had with mine, I really was sweating if they would be up to the job.. They FAR surpassed my expectations..

Remember, 2235H was used in JBL's famous 2 way monitor, 4430. While its a bit of a stretch, it works in a fantastic fashion in my E'waves!

I'm going to cut the flange and round-over off of 3 sides of my QSC guides. The flange adjacent to the mid-woof will be kept. I'll replace the circular round-over with a spiral profile (tangent with a larger starting radius) done in wood.

I "think" this will accomplish 2 things:

Lower the cut-off...slightly

&

Decrease diffraction products

Striving for critical mass...enough thought exercise...gotta build!

Not only does that sound interesting, I bet it could be very cool looking as well. Please take pictures of the process as well as cut dimensions.. I'd give that a go as well!

It's amazing what a group of people can accomplish when they think out of the box... :thmbsp:

Oh heck yes, Ron. I really like the 2226 with a good 2". However, my next step, beyond trying LE85s on QSC is to purchase some Lambda woofers.. Every single bit of info I hear about those guys is positive. :thmbsp:

I am sure you will, but please, please post your thoughts as you progress.

OT, I've been thinking someone artsy should mock up an Econowave logo that resembles the old, scripty Ford Econoline emblem. I think that would be sweet. :thmbsp:
