The new Speakers arrived: P55 ScanSpeak

I tried to be brave and did it... doesn't look too good, but it works.

due to I don't seem to find ScanSpeak 25W4208 as soon as I hoped, I will replace the large woofers with Visaton W 250 8 Ohm 10" drivers, that seem to fit pretty well by the data and size. No comparison to the original, but ok for the time to bridge till I will find the ScanSpeaks some day.

next step: I am going to pick up the arrived temporary replacement drivers NOW ;)

so they will be nice (I hope) Frankenspeakers as long I will have to search for the original drivers!

really no hitec, but pretty ok Visaton W250... the fit exactly into the routed hole.

arrrghh... not sealed yet, can't find the sealant tape...

I hope that you'e pleasantly surprised with the replacement Visaton. It can happen that way.
The design concept for the woofer is not one I've seen before, using the interior cone to support the front facing driver.

the Visaton is no comparison to the original ScanSpeak I believe... but I'll have to be patient until some of them appear. The Visaton is just some 40$ driver... far from Highend... but not total low end :)

Today I finished the second and am listening the 3rd record now.... seems that they want to be driven hard.... now I have ST70 to drive them, I think tomorrow I'll give the ST-400 a try.

Glad to see you got your speakers working, bet the sound nice, I really like the
way the Scanspeak stuff is and was made.

after an eve and a noon of listening they change sound... at first I thoght no bass at al on low volumes... but today, America - Hideaway is spinning, it starts producing nice bottom also in low volumes. New surrounds are the matter? 2 new drivers and 2 refoamed. I always thought breaking in was voodoo but in case of surrounds I may be wrong...? Could go thru the xover some times too...

Glad to hear they are working in Phil!:thmbsp: Surrounds do definitly (generaly) do some breaking in especially on woofers. A short time ago I replaced a driver in a 10" passive subwoofer (with the manufacturers direct replacement) and for a bit wasnt "completely pleased" on its extension and performance. After a bit though, it settled in and now has a deep taut bottom end. :) Hope you can locate some orginal drivers for those!

Thx ... now I believe this... it's albost hearable like they break in...

Guess they will appear within the next 2 years in the bay :) haven't seen one in last three months...

I gave mine a few plays of a fav Telarc Recording that I have of some Bach Pipe Organ. It was in fact recorded on the Great Organ Of Methun in Germany :) :music: That definitly made the woofer suspension more umm "compliable" :D

good Idea!! i have some organ recordings that go really down deep...
but in the afternoon, gotta get to family for easter... happy easter btw!
Some Haendel is on the platter, but I gotto run now...

OMG.... while the testlistening one tweeter died. Never had a scanspeak tweeter die... and no, its not the tweeter level pot circuit... :tears:
I really start hating this... I have another pair of tweeters of this type (works) ... but it's 4 ohms. they should be 8 I believe... the speaker label says it's 8 ohms, the woofers are 8 ohms...
the dead tweeter measures 6.7Ohm inside, taken off the wires.

It's getting annoying. I have to sleep... can't think anymore. 3rd time taking out this glassfibrestuff...
