Hey everyone. Been a while since I've been here, hope you're all well. I am having a problem with a really sweet CR-1020 that I am working on. I've replaced the caps on the the PCB that holds the main filter caps, as well as the board where the speaker relay is located, pictured below. Upon power up here's what I found; no click at the relay, no sound at all. All lights working fine. Idle current is -10 mV both channels. Measurements at speaker outputs, 0mV.

A little history. This unit was fine until I started messing with it. I've worked on a few receivers in the past with great results, but this piece is not working out for me.

The main caps were different then the ones I found in that the bottom pins where different. The new ones are 15000uF 80V Digikey 338-2037-ND. They had two positive, two negative, and one more. So, I snipped off one pos/ one neg, and the other one and fed them through the PCB, bent the pins over the traces/ pads and soldered them in. Pictured below. There are wires leading away from the contacts underneath the PCB and I am pretty sure I put it all back together the way that I found it.

Now, in order to put enough slack on the relay PCB, some wires running to it I snipped, and later soldered and shrink tubed together.

All the fuses are fine.

Looks like a couple small caps are installed bassackwards..Stand-by!!
I do believe the silkscreening is incorrect on the circuit board for that cap.Double check and verify with the schematic.

Yep..Its backwards.. Don't ask me how I found out about the silkscreen..It bite me in the ass once. Look that cap over real good .If it feels oily, shitcan it and put a new one in.

Thanks to you for your help and fast reply. I will see about the cap right away and let you know asap... something such as this can be responsible for the symptoms that I have? I hope so. We'll see.:D
 
Here is a photo of a untouched OEM board. Note the white neg. stripe position points away from the rectifiers.

First off, thank you very much for your invaluable help. I've unsoldered the cap and reversed it and soldered it back in correctly. Now this cap was new and can I do this or have I ruined it by backwards install? Visually it seems fine? Thanks much!:D

Fire it up ..If its not oily your probably good to go.
 
I'm sorry. Didn't mean to leave you hanging. Well, so far I've put it all back together and very soon I will throw the switch and I will relay my findings. I really hope it's all good. Tell you very soon....:scratch2:
 
Same as before. No sound. No relay click. and the meters are doing some strange stuff also. No smoke or signs of trouble. Man... IDK!! But again, you've been really great. I am not going to give up on this Yammie! No way, Jose!!!
 
Does the red on/off lamp light up? Do any of the lamps light up?
 
The wiring that is in the area that I've been "working on" was cut and spliced to gain access to the main cap board. Perhaps I've not connected one or more properly. They are, for the most part all different colors so that's a no brainer. But there are a few of the same color and maybe I've crossed them? Particularly blue and black.

I am usually pretty careful with this work but the reality of the situation is I don't really know what I am doing. I know how to replace caps and clean switches. When it comes to trouble I am woefully inept at tracking down the problem.

This was one of my best sounding receivers prior to my messing with it.
