I too like the lug choice, but what about the choices for the G-8000. Are there not choices that are a bit more reasonable and yet still a good choice. $60 + for eight caps amounts to more than a considerable investment. I am almost 60 and I only need mine to last me until I die.

I have a good news for you
Currently, the Partsconnexion give you a 50% discount for those 10000uf / 80VDC, Slit-Foil capacitors
Panasonic T-HA and T-UP at Digikey for about $10 each. And a handful of ring terminals to give you something more substantial than the tiny snap-in leads to solder to (Digikey PN A27150-ND works well for this).
I'm sure those are the ideal caps to use, but they still are pretty expensive, and are unlikely to result in any sonic improvement. But, you're right, they look great and could have shipped with the unit.
I do like to have the result of my work look as close to factory as possible, but within reasonable financial parameters. Those BHC caps are pushing those parameters badly for most people, especially considering that there are much cheaper alternatives that will do the job just as well (but admittedly won't look as cool).
That said, if I was rebuilding my own G-8000, I might just spring for the spendy caps.

And thus the initial question. Going to take my time on this one as it is going into my personal collection. I have not yet determined audio path caps but will over the next few weeks while I do the full boogie on my SX-1250. It's going to be nice to work on 100% working units for a change.
And my initial response...essentially, that you will NOT find a way to shoehorn a 50mm cap in a spot intended for a 35mm cap. You are stuck with using a 35mm diameter cap, regardless of what capacitor you eventually decide on.
