KLF 10s (any good?)

I can't rely on my hearing anymore to judge sound quality because of the hearing damage I have from all the concerts, and construction career. I do like the sound of them though and was wondering if they have a good reputation. I would like to hook them up to my realistic STA 2100 and see how they do next to the mach 1s. Thanks for eveyones imput!
I decided to put mine through their paces this evening, I pulled out my Led Zepplin 2 CD and played the whole thing at a very high level. I really like the speakers for every type of sound, I had only listened to movies an TV through them until now. They are very clear at every level.
I'm sure they cost alot more, and they are a more modern design so they should sound better. There is still something about the old mach 1s, I guess in the day they were serious ground pounders.

KLF10s look like KG5.2 is there a big difference?
I have spent some time running the KLF-10s behind my Pioneer SX-1980. I even paired my set of modded Mach 1s with them to compare the two.
I have to say the Klipsch speakers are very balanced sounding, the bass is stronger, and the mids not as harsh as the mach 1.
The mach 1s give you more of that raw in concert sound, but this set that I have modded as per the Video Lady specs are much better than the originals I have. When I play the Klipsch and machs together they compliment eachother and any holes in the sound are filled. I had them all at about 70 watts and that was as much as I could take. :boxing:

I have KLF 30s, Cornwall 3s, Fortes and Epic cf-3s. My favorite speakers are the KLF 30s. I haven't heard the KLF-10s but some people like them better than the larger Klf-30s. In my opinion, the KLF series are some of the finest sounding speakers Klipsch ever made. I may be remembering this story incorrectly, but I read that Paul Klipsch briefly came out of retirement and designed the KLF series. I was lucky enough to find a used pair within driving distance. The seller was a super guy and gave me a great price because of a stain on top of one speaker. I would have actually gone for any KLF speaker. It's just that the 30s were available. They're actually too big for my room. I would jump on KLF-10 speakers. I have my 30s hooked up to a Sansui 9090DB and it's absolute bliss. I just have to do some Crites upgrades. They also seem to have been steadily climbing in price over the last few years.
I'm finding out how good they are after hooking them up to my more powerful vintage gear. I bought them for 50% off at a local Sound Advice store years ago along with a complete surround system which included a Yamaha receiver. They were being sold off because Klipsch had stopped making them. So for years they were used for mainly movies and sports on TV, they were never hooked up as stand alone speakers. I am very impressed after putting them through their paces and doing a compare to my modded RS Mach 1s. It's nice to find out you have a set of jems all along, and I never see any up for sale so they must be making alot of people happy.

The 12 inch woofer on those KGs is a passive woofer whereas both the woofers in the KLFs are powered.
Always been interested in the KLF line. Unfortunately finding a reasonably priced pair seems to be really difficult. I once saw a pair of KLF10s in the town over going for $700. Seriously?

There have been a good number of KLF selling on the Klipsch forum in the garage sale section for very good prices take a look there. set up some Google alerts so you can see what comes up first and get first dibs on the good deals. I would not take a lot of effort to build a KLF20 or 30 from the ground up. You can buy the mid horns from Klipsch for 20 each and there are better horns for less look at some of the econo wave horns. there are some Chinese woofers which cam surpass the Klipsch units by a good margin in all but one area for very cheap. The early production KLF 20's had some Quality Control problems that Klipsch fixed later in production. The glue on the back boards came loose on some of them. My friend purchased a new pair back then and a few months later they were coming loose. He called Klipsch and they sent a Rep. out to his home and exchanged them with another new pair and to this day these have stayed solid. Last year he purchased a used second pair for his 5.2 HT system and he showed the owner his too were coming loose and he purchased them for less$$. We spent a week end removing the back boards and the motor board and made some braces and re-glued them. He added a matching C7 center and a SVS Ultra 13 sub WOW nice system now. I purchased his Heresy II so he could buy the the second set of 20's.... we are Both Happy now.
