Enjoy them. The only weak spot (allegedly) is the pre-amp.

I've the full compliment of Leak gear - the Stereo 20, the Troughline 11 tuner (listening to it now) and the pre (Point One) and will never let them go.

Be careful to start them up on a variac or through a lightbulb in series.

The Stereo 20 has been mentioned enough. The Point One Stereo is a so-so preamp, but the Troughline is a pretty good tuner. However, not mentioned yet is that you have the very rare faceplates on the pre and tuner. I think they were US market only, and don't come up often. They're much more attractive than the art deco Leak used more frequently.

$85. Wow. I thought I'd scored getting a pristine Stereo 50 with Point One pre and a box of Mullard tubes for 10 times that.

I'd say don't bother buying a lottery ticket - you just used up a whole lot of kharma/luck.

Yes, when I Googled I saw the other one mostly and agreed that this one is much prettier. It is good info to know that they are rare as well.

Quick question for the techs here. Does this thing have selenium rectifiers? I thought they were the funky colored things with all the blades. I don't see one of those here, but I also don't see diodes. Can anyone clue me in to how this amp is rectified? Thanks.

It sure does have some diodes. My bet is that big tube that doesn't look like the rest on the amp is the rectifier.

Some of the first tubes invented we're just diodes, then they figured out they could add a grid annd control the diode.

Not to be an idiot (just a newb), that does mean that there is not a selenium unit then, doesn't it?
 
There's no selenium rectifiers in the stereo 20. The schematic in post 29 shows the 5AR4 in the top right corner near the power transformer. It's the only diode / rectifier used.
I would reiterate the need to use the same wattage value of resistor in the burned area of the board. It's the larger 100R green one. It's used as a fuse when the circuit overheats. There is a fork type mounting tab for it. Just place the resistor lead in the fork and solder without wrapping the lead. It will disconnect in case of the amp overheating.
You can make the update easier by releasing the clips that hold the board down. Unscrew the tube sockets and you can flip the board out enough to work on both sides. The board can be replaced on the clips when you're done.

This takes the prize for the best find in an extremely long time. Those Leak Stereo 20's can bring, depending on condition and tubes, $2,000.

Truly remarkable.
 
So, BmWr75 (a.k.a. Scott) was kind enough to offer to help me with rehabbing this great old stuff (see #98). I took it all to his house today and we (and by we I mean he) did an inventory of all the caps in all three units and tested tubes. Every one is a Mullard and they all tested at or very near spec. The output trannies also both seemed to test okay, so the news is all good so far. I brought my University speakers with me and he seemed to agree that they would mate well with this setup. He heard them with his little T-amp, but of course it was sans cabinet, so it was a limited test.

Scott is a great guy and I want to publicly thank him. We will keep you all posted on the progress. Here he is manning the tube tester...

This will be a fun restore project and I get to hear it when we are done.

Might be able to get them somewhere else too when we place an order for the amp/pre/tuner caps. So, don't order them yet.

You notice I made sure no cameras pointed in my direction. Every side is my bad side.

I'll be needing l-pads, port tubes and junction plates as well, so if one order goes to your antique place and one to PE, that's no big.
